For my planned activities such as a running race I use a Garmin 310xt or a Tomtom runner. However for less organised runs and bike rides having a GPS on my everyday watch is great and having the watch already on my wrist makes me track significantly more day to day activities.
There are three issues I have with it. I can't get anywhere near 8 hours when linked to a heart rate strap - indeed less that 5, and with a footpod as well I got about 2hrs 30m. It can sometimes take a long time to pick up the GPS. And on a couple of occasions it has malfunctioned and needed to be reset before I could use it. For those reasons I wouldn't like to rely on it for something like running a marathon.
Well made, and a reasonable size. I think in hindsight I would get the woman's version as it is slightly smaller. Strap seems sturdy, replacements are only £15.
I have experienced to a very small degree the delay in the watch finding a GPS signal. The delay for me has only been 1-2 mins at most.
It gives you updated records such as fastest km, fastest mile, fastest 5k or longest run etc. It also has the added bonus of being a live step counter throughout the day meaning the competitive side comes out ensuring you have to beat certain records. As someone who just needs to lose a bit of weight and enjoys a wee jog every now and again, I cannot recommend this highly enough.
I have since bought the foot pod which allows me to do a treadmill run if the weather is bad and it still records it with all the details of the run (without the map of course!!).
The watch also functions well as an everyday timepiece with time, date and alarm function, and as a step counter / activity tracker / sleep tracker. It is comfortable enough to wear 24 hours a day.
Garmin connect is a fantastic utility to check and analyse all the data you need, also the accuracy of the gps is very good.
USED IT LAST SATURDAY FOR MY PARK RUN. INFORMATIVE. WISH I HAD OWNED ONE WHEN I WAS RUNNING SERIOUSLY.
