It was cheap to buy, but an expensive nightmare to use.
Now, the most important factor for me was not having to install software to make this work - my work provides me with different laptops when I go out to an offsite location for a meeting and I do not have administrator privileges to install software on the computer, so plug and play was a must for me. This product works out of the box - I plug in the usb (which is a bit hefty and doesn't always fit nicely if there are other usb peripherals plugged in next to it) and the clicking function just works in PowerPoint, no configuration needed.
The range I have tested is 10 -15 feet continuous use for about an hour and it seems to work fine.
At one time, I was very skilled at doing so -- almost all of the people at my level in a large corporation made presentations often and were very critical audiences -- they had all been there before and knew the ins and outs.
As a care-giver, those skills were not at all necessary, and I'm 15 years out of practice. But they are coming back pretty quickly based on audience reactions.
The pointer is an example of a tool of the trade -- you can point out important points on your overheads or your monitor without blocking the view of your audience.
Two sort of negative comments: a. This is a very intense light, and I worried a bit about shining it into someone's eyes -- exercise great care.
b. There was no battery included; it takes a 21/23 size like the Duracell MN21B2PK Watch / Electronic/ Keyless Entry Battery, 12 Volt Alkaline .
I've reduced my Review from five to three stars because this really eats battery life -- 15 minutes and I had to install a second one to finish a long presentation. Bring a couple of packs with you if you don't want to run out of gas.
Also, this caution from the company is very important: "Laser radiation is harmful to the eyes. Do not stare into the beam! Never point the laser beam to human or animal. Class 2 laser product.""
