4.0 out of 5 starsRetelling story of Mahabharat from Satyavati point of view.
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 8 March 2023
The character of Satyavati is beautifully expressed in this novel. The relationship between Satyavati and Bhisma is portrayed very beautifully. Kavita Kane brings all character live in this novel. Kavita Kane all novels are based on female characters of Ramayan and Mahabharat. I found this novel very entertaining.

3.0 out of 5 starsFast read.

This book generated a lot of eagerness in me because of its storyline. The story of a queen unheard of. It started with a race and finished with one too. But the parts in between seemed a little repeated. It could have been shortened a bit.
Coming to the story, it might be a book to bring to the light the life of Satyavati. The reason for her ambitions. She is often seen as a cruel and a shrewd queen. That is there and more. Though time and again she defends herself, she did the same to Bhism- deprive him of his birthright. What I liked about the book the most was it sought not to justify Satyavati's actions and reasons but just presented them as they were. Good job! :-)

The style in which the book is written is like if someone is just telling few ideas... No connection..No emotions.. hasn't done justice to the title Or character. Poor writing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty boring

The book started really great and had such a great premise. Mid way through it became boring, preachy and plain irritating.
Was barely able to finish reading it with a lot of effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Read if you're a lover of Indian mythology, otherwise decent
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 9 August 2018
This was one of the Editor's Picks e-books available to Amazon Prime customers this month. I have previously read and liked 'Karna's Wife' and 'Sita's Sister'. This one was disappointing with and without comparison.
Sadly, the book shows a lot of promise. Queen Satyavati could have made a wonderfully ambitious character, like Cersei in Game of Thrones. But trying to insert morality to her actions weakens her character as a whole. Bhism is a major character too and it would have been interesting to read about the entire war from his perspective. His guilt and emotions are better portrayed than Satyavati, but it was unnecessary to hint at a romance between them. What I really cannot forgive this book for is portraying Amba as 'crazy'. In lore she was abducted at her swaymwar and later spurned by three princes. Her desire for revenge can be well-explained, even without making her a woman driven crazy by love for Bhism. This book tries to absolve blame from Satyavati and Bhism. Not only does it fail, it also comes across as ridiculous for trying.
