Good older game
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 14 November 2017Verified Purchase
Fun game- better graphics than previous fear game- but the game is pretty linear- would be nice if it were a little more open- with more to discover- steal etc- Atmosphere was pretty creepy in spots- jumped a few times- even when playing over again later as i forget where the scary parts are lol. So be sure you wear depends while playing- Don't drink a lot of tea before playing. The guns are nice- only thing I didn't really like was they kept doing explosions where the whole area would rock violently- and usually you were beign attacked at that point, so you couldn't aim- Guess a lot of severely powerful explosions were going off or something? Not a wholel ot of rivittign story- just a 'go here- rescue so and so' and pretty linear playing- but fun enough nonetheless. Runs fien on my windows 7 machine- I do have a powerful machine and powerful vid card- but the game should run equally well on less powerful older machines- levels load really quickly, liek around 5 seconds or so (but note I am using an SSD)

Excellent Game - You won't be disappointed
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 28 December 2009Verified Purchase
I got this game based entirely on my enjoyment of the earlier FEAR game and expansions. I'm not exactly into supernatural psychic powers, but this game is a well conceived innovative shooter,, so the attempts at making it spooky were easy to ignore. I also don't attach a lot of weight to the story line, sometimes ignoring it altogether. Even so, the story line in this one is hard to ignore if you watch the cut scenes and read the "intel" lying about.
Graphics are excellent, obviously maximizing the capabilities of the Jupiter EX engine. A lot of work was put into creating the environments with lots of eye candy and destructible surroundings. I had no problem playing the game with everything maxed out on my 3GHz core 2 duo, 4GB ram, and dual SLI-linked 8800GTS 512 GPUs under Vista x64. I did experience occasional inexplicable crashes, but never lost any data and the crashes were very infrequent. The game is a "checkpoint" only game which I usually dislike, but the checkpoints come frequently enough so you don't loose a lot of ground if you get killed. If not for that, I would ordinarily knock off one star just because it doesn't allow you to do quick saves or menu saves.
The game was quite long by today's standards and that came as a pleasant surprise. Weapons were typical, yet fun. There were a number of new weapons introduced as you progress through the game, giving you something to look forward to. You do get to operate some really cool turret guns and drive a "walker" type of robot that adds a bit of variety to the game. AI was not bad, but not strikingly different from anything else on the market.
I thought the game started out a bit on the easy side. I played on the normal difficulty level, although you can change it mid game. I didn't get killed at all for the first few hours of play. That's not really a criticism, because I found the game to be great fun. I'm just used to being killed more often. I completely forgot about the slow motion capability, so didn't use it until the final scene in the game.
Overall, I highly recommend this game as being one of the most fun games I've played in a while. Well, worth the $20 I paid for it.

Great Game

So I just had to write my opinion of FEAR as well..again, just my opinion....
I read a bunch of reviews of this game prior to purchasing..actually because of the mixed reviews I ended up going with FEAR first, which I am greateful for. Sometimes a game comes out and does ok and with further feedback and increased technologies, the next game in line is much better. Some reviews about FEAR 2 would disagree with this principle. I do agree it may have made for a better console game than a PC based game possibly due to some control configurations or the HUD...--a confessed slightly different feel--, but I did feel it was a lot of fun on the PC nonetheless. I must say that FPS games are not my typical style. I enjoy the RPG's and Strategies more so but was looking for something with some creepyness to it....After FEAR I played Perseus Mandate and then the expansion, Extraction Point, a bit backwards but worked fine nonetheless. The graphics and playability in terms of challenges and how to overcome them I thought made for a very enthralling game....had me hooked from the start and the stuff with Alma and all the other wierd stuff just made it great! It is a fairly easy, linear game to play, much like Max Payne, which I also love and play again and again but for me, FEAR 2 did not fall shaort as some would say. I did not like the film grain feature and quickly turned that off but the graphics were just as good as the first set of games....details and environments along with music were very familiar and not overdone...the creepyness was still there and even intensified. Other complaints were that the characters were not the same as before..not really sure what they mean or why that really matters as it is the style of game and familiarity of play structure to the previous games that mattered more to me.....in a sense, why would all the characters be the same when there was so much devistation caused by the end of Perseus Mandate..I believe the main character---you---was still the same........anyway, I thought FEAR 2 was well worth playing and can't wait to play FEAR 3...there is one last thing I will have to agree with...the leaning out to shoot, although I never used it seemed a bit frustrating that the enemies used it a lot but you could not....just had to hide better and use slow mo....oh, i also like the HUD better in the first FEAR as well as medkit use, but it all worked out fine.....and instead of gaining hit points so to speak, it was neat that you could gain slo mo time.....so, for what it is worth, that's my two cents...if you liked FEAR, the expansion, the standalone...well, I almost promise you, you will like FEAR 2...enjoy.

NOT BAD, DIDN'T SUCK
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 20 May 2010Verified Purchase
Ok, this is a steam game as you're well aware by now, what does that mean - you can't buy used or it won't work - The game is OK takes place almost entirely in an office bldg like the previous ones - there are some scary parts where you have to melee your way away from alma - other zombie/ghost thingies - some cool flashbacks - the ending is kinda weak. Overall the game felt kinda short (7 intervals - 14 "missions") Nothing really new here, so was kinda boring. Therefore the best I can give it is a 3 star. Some weapons are totally useless like the flamethrower and laser cannon and just seem to be there for variety. Might be fun in multi-player had that feel to it.
