Product Description

When Tibetan refugees first arrived at refugee settlements in the jungles of south India in the early 1960s, many refugees rejected the idea of learning the art and science of plantation of some commercial crops that would have taken several years to bear fruit. The reason they gave was that they would be home (back in Tibet) before they had the chance to taste or sell these fruits. No one then, even in their wildest imagination, thought that they would remain refugees for this long. Yet, it has now been more than 56 years and they still remained as refugees. Thanks to the far-sighted vision and leadership of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama and the elder generations, we have not only survived thus far but have become the most successful refugee community that the world has ever seen.
Nobody can predict when Tibetan refugees will be able to return back to their homes. An analysis of the current situation and past trends of the exile Tibetan community in India and Nepal indeed gives a gloomy picture for the collective future of Tibetans in exile. Although these findings give a bad taste, as responsible members of this community, we cannot afford to remain disheartened by these facts. On the contrary, regardless of any situation, Tibetan refugees have to be optimistic and at the same time not forget to prepare for the worst. In order to do that, they have to be conscious of these shortcomings and their potential long-term negative impact on the exile community in particular and that of all Tibetans in general.
If a thriving exile community is what they desire till their eventual return to Tibet, the only way forward is to understand current
