The new D5 (Direct 5 priced as pairs) studio monitors are geared for the recording professional in need of a small (9.75" x 7" x 8.5"), affordable, accurate, well-voiced, reference studio monitor solution. It features a coaxially designed 5.25" woofer and center mounted 1" silk tweeter in an all wood cabinet. The newly designed digital amplifier boasts extremely low distortion specs and delivers 2 x 50w RMS. SPL is rated at 103 dB combined @ 1m. Frequency response is 53Hz-20 kHz. To achieve extensive mid-range detail the D5 shares much of the acclaimed Equator Q Series technology. Like all Equator 2-way active monitoring systems, the D5 employs a Zero-Point ReferenceTM coaxial design with internal DSP handling numerous tasks, including matching the Digitally-Controlled Transducer'sTM output and the ability to apply pin-point accurate voicing. The voicing was aided by highly acclaimed professional recording engineers.

I have mixed on KRK, JBL, and many other monitors at all different prices levels - I used to swear by my Mackies for years, and the D5s are just in a class of their own. I am hearing things in my mixes I just could not hear before. They are absolutely worth every penny - and they are 1/3 the price of the Mackies.
If you are serious about your music, and don't want hype but honesty in your sound - these are the way to go...
Let me also add that these monitors were not going to be my main ones. I have a full studio equipped with the awesome Dynaudio BM5A's. I always felt that maybe I was being too critical of the M-Audio's because I was used to the BM5A's. That changed when the Equators arrived. As soon as I set them up and played some in-process projects, I knew I had some very special monitors in my possession. I listened to completed projects, reference material, and even made a quickie fresh recording to play around with. When I re-read the review in Recording Magazine, it was apparent that everything the article said was true...and then some. In this day and age to make a purchase that truly lives up to hype is REFRESHING. Get them while the price is where it is! You won't be sorry.
