-It's not insanely fast, or even just fast, but it is a large improvement on the ones we were using even 3 years ago. Pretty much everything I have put on it scans in minute or less. Multiple photos will be slower and text will be faster.
- Hardly any instruction for using the software (which is good once you understand it) IF you have used scanners before you probably will be able to click around and get what you want. IF you are totally new, don't let that scare you. Just Google this specific scanner and your question and you should be able to get answer pretty quickly. I did a mixture of both.
-Once you know how to set the software for what you want it works very smoothly. I have windows 7 64 bit and it has had no problems. Saved multiple pages into PDF's, it breaks up multiple photos as long as there is space between them.
-Very sturdy build and quality build. Its not small but I am able to securely rest it on top of my computer stack while running it and it never tips or shakes or heats up.
-Pictures look wonderful on it. Dust removal also work well for light scratches on old photos. As for color correction it can work well in the right situation. i suggest scanning twice. once with it on and once off and decide to keep whichever you like best. I found I prefer to keep the orangy color casts found in a lot of our old photos from the 60's and 70's, and the color correction option removes that.
Other things to note. Set-up was quick and very easy. And while no scanner is going to be quiet it's the quietest I've used. I can run it late at night in our den/office and it does not disturb anyone in the bedrooms of our small house.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I'll do my best to answer.
I got the V-30 on sale at Amazon [** under $60 and free shipping] and it even has the ability to 'enhance' older color photos and remove some of the 'photo dust' that plague various older and unprotected pictures that have, shall we say, been around the block and seen better days. But hey, it concurrently 'saves' these pictures via making them digital in your computer and thereby preserves the original from further deterioration ... or more photo abuse as time goes by! I'm well satisfied and the scanner does everything it says it does. The scanner lid cover has a sort of cover extention in the rear of the lid to lift 'up' on objects such as books or, indeed, pictures you do not want to take out their frames so that the scanner lid lays flat against the object [within reason of course as to thickness of the book or frame] to be perfectly scanned. You put the picture or document on the indicated 'arrow', close the scanner lid, click the icon already on your computer [from the software CD] and click "SCAN" and there it is delivered right to your Windows "pictures" section by default. Voila! You're ready to upload to Facebook ... or wherever!
An excellent buy and thus far a quite excellent product! So too, I fully trust the Epson [tm] name and they've been around printers, scanners and assorted electronic devices for some years now.
PS: I believe the essential difference between the V-30 model and the V-300 model is that the V-300 can also scan photo or document 'negatives' as well. Most I do is already developed pictures or digital camera uploads to the computer so the V-30 [does 'not' do 35mm slide or photo 'negatives' which the V-300 'does' do] was perfect for my needs.
