Your clients still have to be powerful enough to send signals to this AP across that space, it isn't magic. As in all wireless setups, Line-of-Sight is king, and the higher you get this off the ground, the more space it will cover. I put the 8db antenna on it, which is huge, and I can get 'good' connection about 40 yards away with light tree cover, or a lot further than that with a clear shot.
If you are looking to provide wireless 'N' to a largish area, this device will definitely fit the bill, but you definitely need the antenna, and putting it up in the air is not really optional unless you only want to do a point-to point connection with clear line of sight.
I have been using this for sometime now, and it is a decent product, but it definitely has some quirks, and I do have to reboot it from time to time (more then the daily reboot I have scheduled). If you are looking for a device that you will almost forget about being part of your network though, this is not it. I was hoping the little things may be resolved with firmware updates, but there has not been a update for this product since I bought it nearly a year ago now.
I think I will eventually switch to something a little more robust and enterprise grade.
I swapped out my EOC2611P with the newly purchased ENH200EXT I got here on Amazon and am now realizing the full throughput of my connection easily seeing download speeds that almost match as if I was direct connected to the host access point (still using Client Router Mode).
I use the device on my boat to improve wifi at my marina and to pull in wifi signals from shore when we are at anchor.
P.S. They made one change in the admin web UI, clicking save when configuring options puts the change in a queue, and then you have to go to the queue menu to completely SAVE any changes.
All 3 of the AP's use the same hidden ssid and each is on a different channel. We keep it open and all of us can connect with laptops, wifi capable smart phone, or tablet. I also use magicjack connected to my laptop for free phone service back to or from the US.
The AP's are basically set up as a home router, except way more powerful. Each can also be set up to have up to 4 different ssid's, so zones can be set up for a group using their own channel and ssid as well as security. All of us are very pleased with the system and the low cost involved to set it up.
