This book deserved 5 start but few printing mistakes irritated me. So far I read few starting pages; quality of content is such a great that I have never read in any other books which I read till now. But those spelling error and other printing mistakes break the rhythm.

Now for the book. The size of the book surprised me for a while but I had read, in Stephen King's Memoir on Wiritng included, that this tiny book serves as a starter for every serious writer. And it's just that. Right from cutting out unnecessary words to punctuation, to principles of composition, this book will provide you the basic tools for writing as a novice writer.
I intend to keep this book handy whenever I write and that says a lot about how good this book is because I HATE self help and how-to books.

The book is great but the print from this seller is horrible. Lot of printing mistakes and illegible writings litter the book. It's sad that this book about writing was printed in such a manner to spoil its reputation.

It's a superb guide. Even if you think you are an expert at English grammar, you will still find many things to learn from this book. It's not a one time read, but a book you need to read again and again.

A good reference book to keep referring to, for using the language in a clear and precise way. The good part is that it doesnot read like a rule book; the language is conversational and easy to grasp.

The (little) grammar bible
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 17 May 2018Verified Purchase
I wield this book furiously at anyone who dares to disagree with my prolific use of the Oxford comma or punctuation-light lists. This was a required textbook on my BA Creative Writing and I still have it sat next to me on my desk at work nearly ten years later. Strunk and White is a handy quick reference guide for good grammar, style, and layout. Despite being a relatively old book the rules in it are timeless, and the writing style of the book itself is uncluttered and easy to follow. Every rule in the book is supported by examples to ease your understanding, making them much easier to apply to your own writing style.

Priceless little book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 18 January 2020Verified Purchase
This is a priceless little book that I have had for years. I lent it to someone who lost it so I instantly replaced it as it is a reference book I cannot live without. If you are a writer of anything at all then this little gem should be on your shelf. I guarantee that whatever you are looking for regarding good English and grammar, you will find it here. Cannot recommend highly enough. Yes, it's American, but please get past that. It was first published in 1907 and has been updated several times since then. Grammar is grammar wherever you live!

Almost every point in his guide is still relevant, even in the 21st century. A short but clear guide to writing good English. Whether writing fiction: articles, technical papers or textbooks, this guide will help.

Necessary reading!

Since studying at university and graduating, I have kept this book in arms reach on my work desk since! I’m not the best with grammar, and it’s so reassuring to be able to just quickly check something over if your unsure, particularly when writing papers or minutes in a professional capacity.
It’s also really small and light, so could be kept in a handbag at all times! I think anyone studying in the English language should have a copy of this, from as young as possible, so they have the confidence to use grammar correctly, and to be able to define their writing style.

Really solid guide on writing and the use of English language.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 16 December 2020Verified Purchase
A really solid mainstay for all those who fancy themselves a writer, The Elements Of Style is a nice 101 style book when it comes to writing and the use of the English language. It's brief, concise and straight to the point. I think every writer can learn or at least re-learn something from this. It's a reletively short read too, bether read in short bursts rather than an all-in-one sitting.
