What is it? Pain in the connective tissues associated with muscle attachment near the shin. Pain around the kneecap, especially where the thighbone and the kneecap meet. Pain and inflammation of the connective tissue along the bottom of the foot.
Do I have it? Characterized by tenderness and are typically accompanied by pain in the lower shin area, usually occurring during exercise. The primary symptom is pain in the knee, especially when you bend the knee. The primary symptom is pain normally felt at the heel and occurring where the plantar fascia attaches to the heel bone.
What causes it? Sudden increase in mileage or switching from running on flat surfaces to hilly or uneven surfaces. Repetitive stress on your knee joints, such as that sustained during running or jumping. In some cases, misalignment may play a role. Sudden or drastic increase in mileage, along with the lack of proper arch support, worn out shoes or tight calves.
How can I help prevent it? Ease back into running or exercise. Stretch your calves and Achilles tendons regularly. Add orthotic inserts or insoles designed to help absorb the shock of running.
