“Shilpa has done a very engrossing narrative of capturing the contradictions and compulsions that so many face in their personal and professional lives. Through Jyotsna’s journey, she brings out the constant struggle to find the right balance between emotions and practicality, aspirations and values, short term gains and sustainable life. She has deep insight of the corporate dynamics and hence to label Double or Quits as a work of fiction will be fictitious. There are the chilling realities, however unreal they may appear. Very interesting reading, coming straight from the heart, and one which will keep the reader hooked till the very end.” – Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, Director, Cummins India Ltd.
“Fast, real, gripping, this one's a stunner. Double or Quits sweeps the reader along with unusual narrative force and insight, bringing alive unforgettable characters and hard-hitting situations. This is no typical story of winning and losing – it is about going down and springing back with life on our side.” – Mr. Randhir Khare, Author/Poet, Director, Gyaan Adab

From the Publisher
Heir to a chain of jewellery stores, Nitin Mehta casts aside that mantle to chart his own course in the competitive world of investment banking.
First Jyotsna’s batch-mate at IIM Ahmedabad and now a colleague at the same firm, Nitin still chooses to stay aloof. Successful and smart, with a sense of humour, Nitin has feelings for Jyotsna, but she remains oblivious to the fact. He cautions Jyotsna against treading a certain path, but she does not pay heed to his misgivings.
As Jyotsna’s life plunges into a downward spiral, would Nitin emerge as a friend, a confidant or something else?
Jyotsna Singh is smart and attractive, and lands one of the most sought-after jobs in Investment Banking. Her career continues to surge upwards in the world of stock markets – a heady mix of huge bonuses, globe-trotting, late night workathons fortified with caffeine, and celebration parties.
As far as the outside world is concerned, she is a warrior; only her immediate family and a few close friends know of her early years of struggle, anxieties and vulnerabilities.
When Jyotsna meets Aryan Sahani - self-made billionaire and owner of Sahani Hospitals - she finally lets her guard down.
Little does she know the price she would pay for her choices - both at work and in love.
Aryan Sahani is a suave, self-made businessman and the owner of a chain of hospitals, that is rapidly emerging as a top healthcare company. He is ambitious, a risk taker and not averse to taking a few short cuts on the way to success. For him, the end justifies the means.
He first meets Jyotsna when she is competing to win his company’s mandate. After their initial catastrophic meeting, Aryan woos and seduces Jyotsna, and
wraps her in a whirlwind journey with him.
But does life pan out for the charming and sophisticated Aryan as he had envisaged?

But a love with lies at its foundation crumple doing putting Jyotsna's personal and professional life in jeopardy. Her world crumbles before her and she is left alone but then even the worst of all happens, will she have the courage to fight her way out and rise against all odds? Read Double or Quits to find out.
The book has a direct start regarding Jyotsna's corporate life instead of beating around the bush with her back story , as the story proceeds, we come to know who she is and what she was to figure out her background.
The blurb had made me think that the book is just another tale of love and betrayal but I will happily state that it's not the same. It has more, a lot more. A woman against all odds and how she overcomes the blames, the shame, the situations and in the end rises above all to be on her legs comprises more or less the central story.
The book is written in satisfactory and easy english and though the corporate talk can be some bit of a headache for those not associated with it, it's quite well explained by the author in order to make a layman not ponder over it for long.
It's a woman centric plot and will be well accepted among women.
The blurb does not do justice to the content of the book for the book has way much more give than its blurb. This is one book I would like people to not judge by its blurb.
I recommend it to woman whp have ever suffered emotional breakdown both in regards with their career or love-life. Its surely inspirational and something one would cherish for sometime after reading.
Ratings- 4 out of 5 stars
The only thing that was off about the book was its title. Despite being a really beautiful title . I wish the author had explained it in the plot a bit more rather than few statements from the protagonist.
The author has kept the plot real and crisp without sugarcoating the reality of today's world and I am sure that the readers will surely appreciate that.

It's a beautiful story line, I just liked the way, the author has played the roles of character, and narrated the entire story very well.
The suspense is in the most different way, I personally loved the Main character Jyotsna Singh. She belonged to middle class, consisting small family that included her mother and granny. It revolves around her college life and then to her professional life, passing through hard times and finally falling in love with her client. The way she achieved her dreams, although passing through tough time, watching her work, one could immediately be boosted to work hard, and smart.
I also learnt few things from the book, from writing skills to shares and work arena.
Every book lover ought to read this.
The thing I didn't like about this book was Aryan and Jyotsna's relationship, it might be a major moving point for the plot, but I found it lacking in that emotional connect. Individually, I was impressed with both the characters, but together, they just didn't make much sense to me.
This is book is about betrayal and failures in life, that much is evident from the blurb and while I loved the way it was executed, knowing what was about to happen killed the surprising element, and I wasn't awed by any twists.
Yet I loved reading about how she handled the situation and picked herself up from rock-bottom. That struggle was an inspiration. You can do anything if you just put your mind to it. The friendship bonding of Jyotsna with her girl friends was another enjoyable element. The writing style of the book is quite simple and elegant. It presents the hard stock market terms and explains it in simplistic terms so that the readers can easily understand it. The real story (for me) was towards the end. Everything Jyotsna had experienced, every hardship had molded her and made her stronger. Also, Nitin, I won't talk much about him but he was my favorite throughout the book.
Another thing I totally loved about this book is that it was so easy to connect with the story because of the realistic approach.
