I've read all the three, most famous U.S. Navy seal books.
Personally, I believe that discipline equals freedom is not a book that you'd want to just sit down and enjoy reading while having your coffee, its moreover a book that you're supposed to read when you feel that you don't want to continue doing your work. I highly recommend you to put it on your desk, and open any random page and start reading when you feel like lying in bed and leaving everything for 'tomorrow'

Find your will, find your discipline--and you will find your freedom
Jocko Willink's methods for success were born in the SEAL Teams, where he spent most of his adult life, enlisting after high school and rising through the ranks to become the commander of the most highly decorated special operations unit of the war in Iraq. In Discipline Equals Freedom, Willink describes how he lives that mantra: the mental and physical disciplines he imposes on himself in order to achieve freedom in all aspects of life. Many books offer advice on how to overcome obstacles and reach your goals—but that advice often misses the most critical ingredient: discipline. Without discipline, there will be no real progress. Discipline Equals Freedom covers it all, including strategies and tactics for conquering weakness, procrastination and fear and specific physical training presented in workouts for beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes and even the best sleep habits and food intake recommended to optimize performance.
Within these pages discover the keys to becoming stronger, smarter, faster and healthier. There is only one way to achieve true freedom: The Way of Discipline. Read and this book and find The Way.

Don't read hundreds of books
This book in itself is complete pack of jet fuel
I never tells you right or wrong instead that's you
But I has got so many examples of scenario so that you will fit in any one
And there the journey of analysis starts
Best part of the book was
You just need two things to make any thing possible I.e., emotion and logic both should work together for common goal

It's not really a self help book.. It contains excerpts from the Jocko podcast which are awesome and I love.. It is what it claims to be i.e. a field manual.. I keep it on my study table and whenever I tend to slack off I read some and get after it..

But the quality of the book is pathetic, bunch of pages were coming out. (Have also attached pictures of the condition of my book)
Plus it has been printed on black paper with white ink, which was difficult for me to read (I.e. reverse printing)

Is this a parody?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 5 December 2019Verified Purchase
This book is so bad it's actual comical. By buying it I feel like I've been part of an elaborate prank. Its a non stop roller coaster of disjointed and contradictory ramblings "work hard, push forward, always push forward, unless its more strategic to retreat, never rest, unless you have to rest, then you should rest. always attack, except when you shouldn't. wake up at 4am, but sleep is so important....blah blah blah", and on and on for 100+ pages. You will never ever see another collection of so many cliches in one place. It is quite something to behold. My favorite part was the chapter on Martial arts and how everyone should know 3 martial arts, and that the best martial art was carrying a gun. seriously.

A bit disappointed by this one
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 13 January 2018Verified Purchase
A bit disappointed by this one, a bit insubstantial. It's sort of ok but it's not great value for from my perspective. If you listen to the Jocko podcast or watch it on YouTube (the YouTube episodes are often great!) you've heard everything in this book already. The podcast, however, is deeper, more helpful , often more interesting and more entertaining. I'd recommend the podcast over this book.

Get your life back on track with Jocko
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 23 June 2019Verified Purchase
Discipline equals freedom is such an enjoyable book. The majority of the book is based upon Jockos thoughts on certain topics, giving us his opinion on how to deal with issues that come up in life, using his concept of Extreme Ownership, (also the title of his other book), Jocko gives us some hard truths that so far I've found have been the wake up call that I've needed to get myself back on track. Later in the book Jocko goes into advice on setting up a home gym, and a training plan. I really enjoyed this book. Beware though, for those used to a traditonal book format, this book contains large font, with most quotes used in a double page layout. But the information contained here is on point.

Book is Good but not groundbreaking

Let me start by saying I'm a fan of Jocko and Echo on the podcast. As well as hearing in 201 do the Tim Ferriss podcast.
The book is great, especially the workouts, and it feels like Jocko in a book. Black pages with white writing. Images of guys doing BJJ. Just has that meaty feel to it.
But it is padded out. At 199 pages, unless you want to get into the workouts. Or you have just never listened to Jocko then it is worth it.
Otherwise save your money and just listen to the podcast. it would be hard for any book to do the machine that is Jocko Willinck justice.

Overpriced for what it is
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 31 August 2020Verified Purchase
This is a book that is extremely light on content, I was able to read it in two sittings over one evening without much difficulty. For the most part the book repeats basic tenets of get up early, don’t make excuses and don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today.
Too much of the book read like a collection of sound bites. I understand that the desire is to motivate people and sometimes repetition can do that, though with similar messages appearing page after page it became wearisome.
Not to say there isn’t a good message here, because their is. The point made is that as people we too easily surrender to weakness and make too many excuses for things that end up crippling our productivity and development, the book identifies ways of cutting through that.
Though that same message could have been done as much less expense.
