This clearly shows how a beginner with ambition and passion grows very fast in his career, opens his own company, and reaches the zenith of his career. But by this time, his love for his partner has died. His personal life had become a hollow. He just keeps going on with the mere burden of responsibility and not love.
His partners in business Anil, Prem, Rakesh and Qazi were the ideal gang, who always stick to him with all his decision. His childhood friend Aditya, a perfect friend to turn to in need of help and suggestions. But none can help him, when politician start to interfere in their business to hide their dirty money by force.
This also shows that to get a major success in life, one cannot stick to honesty, how much ever one wish to. The bad politics interferes showing the greed of giving financial help. And if you deny, they make your survival difficult. You are not left with any choice but to accept their offer and be a part of dirty politics. This is what happens with Atul.
And after all these, what is left in his life? His wife Roshini dies of a car accident. He does not even get a chance to ask for forgiveness. He can visit his daughter Ananya only once in month. His love, Arati is a wife of someone else. He is left with the guilt of making others suffer. He didn’t commit any crime or murder but he got involved in those being in a race to reach the pinnacle of his career. But was it worth after all?
This was a fast-paced story narrating the rise and fall of a man in corporate world in his race to take his company to the top of the world, and eventually losing his love interest in his personal life. The story was good and held my interest. The plots twists and turns keep the story moving. I could not get the use of much of business stuffs. It was beyond my understanding. But all and all this was a good read. This book seems very apt for bollywood movie adaptation. I won’t be surprised it that happens in future.
As you start the book, from word go you have a sense of foreboding about the fate of the protagonist. He is like Icarus. He will burn.
The strength of the book is in its characters. The reader will feel their pain. I dont get the corporate stuff too much. I read for the story, which is gripping. In your mind's eye you visualise the jail scene and the agony over the child. Though at the end you see redemption and a glimmer of hope.
Though the book is about Atul Malhotra and his inner demons, its fast paced. There are villains, romantic interests, a good friend, and an ailing child. All the makings of a blockbuster movie! If you like John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon, this book is right up your alley.
Title- Destiny of Shattered Dreams is the most suitable title as nothing could have been better than this. The way the protagonist goes through trials and tribulations beautifully serves its title.
Plot- The plot construction is crisp and has no loose ends in it. It is a story of love, lust, relationships, corporate world, dirty politics, corruption and many more issues. The author has done justice to all the aspects. Atul Malhotra is the protagonist who seems to be a tragic hero. He is a successful man with unsuccessful married life and a relationship. He gets drowned in the web of corruption, murder and dirty politics which turns out to be his error of judgement or we can say his tragic flaw. Life takes a turn when harsh reality dawns upon him. It is a roller coaster ride of all the elements that take place in his life.
Themes- There are variety of themes in it. The theme of love, illicit relationships, betrayal, dirty politics and most important the theme of corporate life.
Charcterization- Atul Malhotra is the main character on whom this story is based. He is a failure when it comes to handle relationships be it with his wife Roshini or be it with his girl friend, Aarti. He is caring towards both of them but situtaions parts him with both of them.Being a witty person he knows the knack of business sense. He takes all types of risks and end up in a pit which takes away everything. In the end he is a sufferer who learns from his mistakes and tries to mend the broken pieces of his life.
The female characters are not that important but they do play a significant role in the plot development. Aarti is a support system for Atul while Roshini is just the baggage for Atul. Both serve as a foil to each other. The other characters also play some role in the progress of the novel.
Style- The language of the author is simple, clear and lucid. It has brevity in it. The use of variety sentences makes it attractive. Whereas the phenomenal poety with translation is the highlighter in the book. The locations chosen are amazing followed by enthrallling descriptions and mind blowing narrative styles. The texture of the book is appealing. The only low point is repetition of sentences in the book and tinge of editing error. The other part is the use of corporative jargons which were unique as well as boring and could have been used in a better way.
