The body, although plastic is quite durable and well designed with a steel boiler. The portafilter is sturdy and gives a professional feel. I really like the water tank, its one thing I was worried about, however this one is maintenance free. If you brew everyday you will never need to lift it out.
Now the issues, the coffee tamper is very weak and made of plastic, so I have ordered new steel one. It's a given so you might as well order one with the machine.
The other issue is the machine is probably lighter in weight due to the plastic so it does vibrate a bit when dispensing the coffee. Vibrates less with a full water tank, though.
But for the price overall a good machine. I had a saeco earlier, this one is far more sturdier with better quality design and materials.
This machine gives you a fairly good espresso shot with crema, but you need lots of attention to detail.
1. Run the machine thrice with empty portafilter till warmed up.
2. Make sure you have freshly ground powder
3. Use a good quality tamper. The plastic tamper provided is useless.
4. Fill the portafilter till heaped if freshly ground, or till the top, cutting off with a knife if preground.
5. Tamp well
6. Attach the portafilter. ( you need to use some brute force)
7. Watch the brew while it comes. . stop the flow only when you see a blonde brew.
There is a significant difference in taste between steam and pump espresso
I was really happy with my purchase until last week when i started noticing some water leaking from espresso region while frothing. I called up customer support and they want to change the whole steaming chamber. I have been told it will take a week to get a new chamber. Lets wait and watch.
Update:Its been few weeks now and the problem is still not resolved. I have been calling Jeeves customer support and they are now telling me it can take upto 80 days to get the replacement part. Pathetic customer service. Dont buy Delonghi products in India.
Edit: I got this machine on 26 Oct 2015 and it has stopped producing steam/hot water at pressure since April 2016. I have tried getting service from Mr Mohan +91 98211 11273 on the advise of the seller from 5-May 2016 onwards. To date Mr Mohan has called and made promise but no service so far. How do I resolve this. I do need service for the machine.
Worked it just once...made a lot of noise initially itself!...the crema on the coffee was good but the milk frother was ridiculous!..
Moreover it doesnt fit a good sized cup either!
Returned it immediately!..
Expected much more from a reputed company like Delonghi!..Do Not recomend this product!
I got an amazing deal on this Delonghi , an offer I couldn't resist...I didn't think for a second and ordered it.
the machine is totally awesome....the finish is top notch...I use it at least 2-3 times a week and its never been easy to make a latte.
there are some issues though --
# the portafilter doesn't fit proper 90 degree with the basket.
# the steam wand could be made to move more....
# with the regular setting , one cannot use latte cups...
I got it at 6kz in amazon lightning deals , at that price this machine was a steal..
If you are looking to invest around 10k in an espresso maker - check out Saeco one as well.
Will have to wait and see how it performs over time. A little maintenance and occasional Descaling is advised to prolong its life.
Instead of calling for a Demo you can search for videos on YouTube. The "De'Longhi How-to" channel has a bunch of videos explaining everything.
Sooo, go ahead and get it...and make cappuccinos, macchiatos, mochas, iced coffees or whatever you're in the mood for. Happy c☕️ffee making 😊
