I read some reviews about how the clear heart layover page didn't line up with the skull logo on the next page. Even though this is true, I'd have to say that it's not exactly a deal breaker. I understand that It's difficult to get things like this printed perfectly and mine wasn't off more than a quarter of an inch.
I also read that the feather wasn't of the best quality, and that's true. I have tried to fix it but in the end I gave up. I more so just wanted the book but this set was cheaper than just the notebook at the time so I didn't care too much.
And finally, the necklace. The chain is a bit stiff and the L comes off easily but that's easily fixed, I planned on switching the chain anyway. The metal L looked rough around the edges and it had been scratched on both sides. I admit, I was slightly disappointed but again, I didn't really focus on quality for it. It migt just be better to get the necklace and book separately in order to get high quality on both if that's what you're looking for.
Overall, the content is almost exactly how it is in Death Note, (I was slightly expecting five full pages of names but it's no big deal) along with ALL of the rules which I was really happy about. It's a bit hard to read with how the font printed but it's not impossible and the ink smell is a little strong but I just aired it out and it was fine. That's what I expected from solid black printing.
Again, I got this for the set and more for the look and content. On that note, haha, I think it was a pretty okay purchase for me. If you're wanting a high quality notebook for an event, I'd search around a bit but if you just want something that goes with a set or for sentimental value, this might just be for you.
When I received my package it was neatly packaged in a plastic shipping bag with the box inside. The box itself looked like someone had spilled water on it, thankfully the notebook wasn't warped, but the layers making up the box were separating and it made it impossible for the top of the box to close properly. It wasn't even closed when I took it out of the shipping plastic. Not that it really matters I just going to threw the box away, but for someone who might have wanted to keep the notebook inside of the box as a collector's item would have been upset.
Now, about having to trim the book... this notebook is made up of two parts, the plastic sleeve (Black cover that says "Death Note") and the inside pages (which is basically a flimsy paper-back book). The plastic cover slips onto the outer pages of the page insert book and amazingly is holding together pretty well. But around the edges of the outer cover there was excess plastic that wasn't supposed to be there. It wasn't to much, but I had to get out the scissors and cut the excess plastic off.
Honestly, I wouldn't have been upset if I had just bought this for myself, but I hadn't. I had bought it for a friend of mine. I re-wrapped it in gift paper (I had thrown away the box) and gave it to her. Thankfully she likes it and has it sitting in her shelf, but I doubt she'll ever use it in her cosplay of Light. Which is why I bought it...
The necklace was fine, the chain was a bit short, but it can attach to basically any other chains you might have lying around.
Over all, I guess it's an ok notebook with all of the rules and names, but it your looking for a serious cosplay book, then this is not the notebook for you.
