Product description

Product Description

This book is a collection of 24 essays on current practice in clinical cardiology based on scientific evidence. The articles are written by Dr Deepak Natarajan consultant interventional cardiologist practicing in New Delhi....... for medical residents, health workers and the lay public with an interest in medicine.

Medical residents are compelled by their heavy duties managing patients during their training to have little time to read up on the latest ideas and protocols unfolding in clinical cardiology.

This book has essays on a variety of topics ranging from contemporary management of pulmonary embolism to recent anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation... to invasive strategies in acute coronary syndrome to the latest anti-platelets that are employed for coronary artery disease patients.

There is an essay that simplifies the fundamentals of fats in nutrition and another puts a question mark on the recommendations of the American Heart association on cooking oils. Emphasis is laid on healthy living plus the perils of excessive long distance running.

The findings of the largest randomised study on left main coronary artery disease is discussed and there is an essay on the best re-vascularization approach for multi-vessel disease in diabetic patients.

The author is deeply perplexed by the complete lack of common sense and basic knowledge on health matters in the urban Indian population. There is a distinct probability of the Indian economy getting derailed on account of the looming epidemic of heart disease risk factors in young Indians. It is no longer surprising to manage men in their twenties getting admitted with fatal heart attacks. It is imperative that the economy engine of a nation has to be fuelled by a reasonably healthy work force.
