Every Human being has certain desires, wants and thought processes in the mind. The inadequacies, troubles and difficulties sometimes never have an answer, they just pass by with us during our drifting life, without any consolations or endings. This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to understand how the great philosophers understood Life, Survival and our very limited time on this planet with a follow up of the newer brains that followed the Golden Hellenic Age. Socrates , Aristotle. Nietzche and many more who brought important facts of life in front of our eyes.

This book opens an interesting line of thought that can be almost impossible to open in the technological and televised age of today, a real sage is a man who understands the unexamined life he will lead and disappear from the limited time of existence on this planet.

The book is eruditely written, with broad and concrete categorization making it easy to touch the soft emotions that are causing us concern and anguish. This is the first book of Alain De Botton read by me and I intend to read more from this brilliant writer.

Putting thoughts on such huge book is not easy though :)
Huge thanks and applaud to Alain De Botton for bringing such fantastic work for all of us.

I find this book particularly useful and relevant in today's times. The ideas presented here belongs to western philosophy and its finest philosophers. they'd have been uninteresting or not particularly useful otherwise if we'd not have been living in today's times that's shaped by globalized world where most of us constantly find ourselves confronting with multiple life styles, ideologies, theories, work cultures and immense media onslaught bombarding our minds with all of these at once.

If not for help, at least one must be searching for consolation in such immensely testing times for an individual mind. You need this book anyway :)

Each of the carefully chosen and equally beautifully presented idea here, practically helps one to deal with
critical life defining aspects that bother us all in our day to day lives.

Philosophy, which is often dismissed as impractical and only meant for the lotus eaters, can and should be applied to everyone's life, if for nothing else, to make it better. And what better use can it be put for? de Botton has given philosophy its proper value, set it in perspective, and tells us what we can learn from it to live better. It is difficult to believe that this can be the case until you read this phenomenal treatise.
