Shakti’s style is clear and often poetic; her observations are personal and poignant. The novel features more bonuses: (1) a delightful drawing introduces each chapter, and (2) many notes help you navigate the stew of world languages.
Do travel stories intrigue you? Coming-of-age candor? A woman’s courage to test the limits of her destiny? Finding a man’s love? Then this book is for you.

This is a well written book with engaging characters woven into the life of a multilingual, multicultural kid named Kamala.
The author takes us on a riveting journey as she treats us to glimpses of Kamala’s life, her varied experiences as she tries to adapt to different cultures and admire the beauty in their differences and similarities. You can see in your imagination the sights that Kamala sees, the fears she feels, the happiness she experiences, the loving bond she shares, the kindness she holds in her heart - making this a truly great read!
From an innocent child to a strong, confident woman, Kamala blossoms and adapts well to her changing environments while at the same time retaining her own unique essence.
I commend the author in bringing out this fine book and look forward to reading her next!
