This book is an indispensible tool for preparing core concepts of psysical geography for Civil Services Preliminary Examination. Gives a lucid and crystal clear explanation of concepts.Presentation is excellant --Anirudh Shandilya on Sep 20, 2011
fantastic book for developing physical geography gyan. good for civil services. people complaining that it is very old version (1974 edition) so it is and thats why it is so cheap. it doesn't matter that its Bombay or Mumbai or USSR or Russia as this book deals with physical geo. not the political one. --Abdul Ahad Siddique on Nov 19, 2013
It is a must buy book for getting hold of geography concepts. It is rich in diagrams, illustrations and case studies. It has always been favourite with geography toppers and also'for'general studies. In prelims geography carries considerable weight especially environmental geography which this books covers quite nicely. --vinay on Jun 11, 2012

Has enough diagram.
Everything is well explained.
Language is simple and effective.
Printing could have been better. Considering the price of book, pages are not adequate enough.
Even if you have other geography books, you can get this one. You can use this one to revise it is short and precise.

However, most of the black and white photographs of the real-world locations in this book are so hazy that the geographical features they seek to illustrate cannot be seen. It does not pose a big problem though, for one can use the internet to find similar images.
Another problem with this book is the fact that it has not been updated since 1970's; that's why, the book mentions the erstwhile USSR and Yugoslavia and not their successor states i.e. Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia etc. Of course, this is a niggling issue but less history-savvy readers might get confused.
All in all, this book is indispensable as a primer for physical geography and climatology. It also can be used for quick revision before the UPSC Civil Services prelims exam. However, being a rather slim book it cannot suffice for the General Knowledge paper of Mains and one must supplement it with another book of physical geography.
For this reason, I highly recommend reading Introducing Physical Geography by Alan H. Strahler which is the gold standard for this subject. In my opinion, that book should be the physical geography bible for UPSC aspirants.
Many concepts are properly explained or enough information is not given.
Only reason i was able to understand topics from this book was because I went through videos by Mrunal on YouTube ( the lady has explained very well going in details using the simple English)
I highly recommend to go for some other books but not this if you haven't went through geography topics in past.
If your concepts are clear then you may gonfor additional information.
But not for people who don't have even the slightest idea of fundamentals of geography.
Other than that it's good for revision.
The problem is the quality of the book itself. It seems as if the printing house was in a hurry that day. The words are really close to the margins and the cutting is not very nice either. The pictures look like they were taken from a 90's camera. They are all blurred and sh*t. And I don't even know if I got the original.
So if you're thinking of buying this book, please buy it from a local shop where you can get a hands on experience of the quality of the book.
All The Best.
The language is very precise and facts are supported with numerous examples.
It was packed quite nicely and delivered on time.
