The book is divided into two parts:
Part-1: Carol and Me
Part-2: The Sea and Me
Plus- The book has the terminal chapters in the form of interactive sessions. (Bonus!)
Initially, the character Carol, appeared to me as a sort of hallucination of Neelam's neurons, like the one Izzie used to have of Denny's presence in Grey's Anatomy TV Series. It was so more than just a hallucination. Carol is a wonderful idea. Brilliant. To have a part of you always telling the truth out loud, can be a fruitful deal. I'm gonna try this in my life, soon.
The first part of the book, 'Carol and Me', deals with the Protagonist, Neelam, talking to her inner soul. The second part, 'The Sea and Me', has all the life lessons, the author has learnt from sea and all the things she like about sea.
From inception, till the end, the book has a gripping power. The author's commendable hold over the language, supports the amazing plot of the book. The book is humorous. Author's pen has shown her true colours of wit and sarcasm in the one liners.
Consider the wit of the author's ink, when she wrote dialogues about designating her baldness, after the chemotherapy, as in-
"Hey deciduous tree! Give the guy a break." (Page-42)
and also like this,
...when a 7-year-old wonder boy, Rajveer, squealed with delight, "How cool! You have come dressed like an Easter egg!" (Page-43)
In the second part of the book, readers come to know, via Neelam's poetic proses, why she loves the sea so much.
Have you ever seen the sea on a bright blue day? Has your soul not been struck by its stillness? (Page-115)
This book is motivational. Inspirational. Brave. Witty. Charming. And, magical!
Ever felt the moment, when smiling, you're getting the inspiration simultaneously? That's this book.
This is an entertaining, life changing book. And, I recommend this to everyone out there, to have a taste of life, as to how to live fully!

LIFE itself the way you handled it you definitely come out on top. Widowhood Cancer et all NEELAM gives a KNOCKOUT blow with her midlife shift to Jounalism and now an accomplished AUTHOR.
KEEP IT UP and God Bless. ~ A Classmate.
Let me explain why.
Do you know anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone who suffered from Cancer?
I know someone who did. And although her pain and suffering was only visible to me for all of five minutes, I knew then what Cancer was.
And now, some fifteen years later, I read 'To Cancer, With Love'. Forget about changing your perspective towards Cancer, this book changes you and your perspective to life!
You begin to feel sorry for Cancer for daring to afflict this lively fire-brand of a woman not once but twice. For Neelam Kumar is no cancer survivor, but in fact a cancer beater. She is one who doesn't just take Cancer and survive but gives it a sound whiplashing; thrashes it on its head, whacking its bum, making it the victim. This is a true modern day 'Iron Lady'.
That was about her spirit and her fight with cancer.
Now about the book, itself '
If I were to mark out my favourite parts, the book would end resembling my history textbook from class 10th, one where every other sentence is underlined and every third sentence is double underlined to mark its importance.
Despite how excruciatingly painful Cancer is said to be, reading this book would have you in splits. You'd wonder whether the author is talking about battling Cancer and describing chemotherapy treatments or taking an evening stroll in the park. The worst of Cancer is talked about and yet you are left smiling. The insecurities, emotional turbulence, physical pain all fade away thanks to her attitude, sheer grit and sense of humour.
I loved meeting Carol. I'm a little weird myself and a lot of the things Carol does resonate with me strongly.
The second part of the book, is deeply profound and full of meaningful wisdom and practical, relevant advice without being preachy. Don't do you dare make the mistake of skipping this part, thinking it's going to be too philosophical. It's as emotional and meaningful as the first part. To read how Neeelam Kumar lost her husband as a result of a careless action on the part of an inexperienced intern gutted my heart. To read how wonderful he was and how supportive and encouraging made me smile through my tears. I fell off the chair laughing how as a Mathematically challenged substitute teacher, she checked some classwork of students and marked all the wrong answers correct.
Her advice found resonance with me, because a lot of things I believe in are the same. It is when you read something you have believed in firmly, despite opposition, that you realize how the world has conspired to make you the way you are. That is when the ways of the world seem to make sense and you realize how similar you are to the author. That's when you realize the author has become your idol and you aspire to be like her. That if you become even half the person she is, your life would be more enriched and more lively. Thank you, Neelam Kumar for giving me new reasons to value life and its offerings.
If there's just one book that you'd like to pick up, let it be this one. Rich, impactful, emotional, inspiring with an overdose of humour, this book will teach you, inspire you, impact you and leave you a fighter. For we know that all obstacles and challenges are only as big as you make them. With this book, one gets to finally realize how very true that statement is.
Often an author thanks his readers for supporting them and reading their books. They say the author isn't doing the public a favor by writing, but in fact, the reader is doing the author a favour by reading it. It is obvious that the reader does a favour to themselves too because reading is the most valuable gift to oneself.
But this once, I'd like to go one step further and state that this author has indeed done us readers a favour by giving us this book.
And so, a heartfelt thank you, Neelam Kumar, for writing this book and setting a new standard of being courageous! You're my idol.
