A collection of short-stories set in the 20th Century India for the 21st Century kids & a nostalgic walk, for their parents & grandparents. Although this book has been named after the city of Chandausi, it contains stories from various places like Rishikesh, Agra, Champaran, Tilhar, Sambhal, Kanpur, Banaras, Lucknow and many others. These are the short stories of a bygone era-a period when India had either not gained independence or had been independent for not more than 35 years. These are the tales of journeys-taken up from the early 20th century to the end of a millennium, from Shahjahanpur to Delhi, from Bijnor to Hyderabad, from Hathras to Sweden & Norway, from Lakshmi Talkies, Allahabad to Night Watchman, Bangalore, from Panki to USA, from Dehradun to Canada, from Chandausi to Australia and many others. We are sure in all these stories, you will be able to find at least one character, which reminds you of your own self-of what you are, were or always wanted to be. Let us know the character with whom you have been able to relate to the most. Happy reading. “Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration,”-Thomas A. Edison. -Here’s a collection of short stories to inspire the readers.

This was a warm, cozy trip down the memory lane. Be it the old lady and her daughter in law foiling robbers or two sibling having an impromptu contest or two cousins one from village and other from city finding strange things when they visit each other. The double decker took the cake. This book made me wonder why we don't have more such simple and touching tales. Glad I bought this book.

I loved the short stories and illustrations that depict an era gone. The illustrations helped in visualising the unknown things used earlier.

From the story of Chandausi's popular Soan-Papdi to the earthy tale of Puliya, it takes me back to my father land and remind me of my childhood and everything about those amazing days. Book is a sheer collection of nostalgia and mirror of how beautiful Rural India is/was. Narrations are just simple and can teleport you to those Havelis, Schools, Kacchi Sadak and Bazaras of Northern India.
Do give it a read :)

Dear Shankar Sahay Ji
🙏 Greetings to you !!
At the onset , thank you for giving me your signed book . I am obliged.
I had read through the same , so thought of sharing my views with you .
First of all , must compliment you and your co- author Madam Preeti Sahay's - simple ,plain , earthy approach in writing and capturing the " Indian Ethos " in terms of rural - semi urban landscape.
What I feel is that you have painted a collage of your personal journey .
Why I say so is ....the chapter titles ( per se Hindi words ) are milestone related to incidents that you wish to portray on the canvas ...and are link to sequence .
It refreshes the memories when such simplicities use to touch upon the lives of a common man .
I can say ...this being " Malgudi Days " of North / UP.
Sukhjeev Singh Bajaj.

Amazing back-to-the-past recollection

An evocative look at life of India as it existed for us back when the Boomers were in their prime and how we GenX'ers interpreted it.
This collection of easy to read short stories will, no doubt, bring back memories to those of my age, and is a deep look at how India worked at the time after Independence, from a ground level perspective.
It is applicable to everyone no matter which part of India you hail from, because we have all experienced these moments in our own set of circumstances.
The illustrations remind of the RK Laxman "common man" feel.
