I bought DCP T500, which has similar specification as DCP T300 and DCP T700both, where the former lacks wifi and the latter has wifi+ADF, remaining is same.
I have used Canon MP470 and HP (1510 and 3545), I have seen the quality of Epson L210. I compare this with all the three.
Ink Tank system: Each color tank can take 70 mL of ink and black about 200 mL. We can see clearly the ink quantity. The system does not monitor ink quantity so the printer does not force you to fill or use only their own ink. You just keep checking ink level by eyes.
Print Quality (Black): This printer can print crispy black letter in best mode. If we take a laser printout and give it 100 rating this will get 97, HP 95 and Canon 98 points. The black letters in best mode are as crispy and dark black, as laser and cannot be distinguished easily. I have not seen Epson L210 in best mode but for normal mode this printer is better than L210. In normal mode you can easily see the jaggy margins of the letters typical of all inkjets.
Print Quality (color and photo). In normal mode this printer initially printed light colors, I will say 90% saturated, which is good only for text or graphics, but not for photos. They look fade. But, after printing of 200 pages the color saturation improves, it looks the print head is filled with some liquid initially which dilutes the ink and once this effect is over the colors look vibrant. The saturation can further be improved by setting from the print menu go to >properties>advance>color settings>select color enhancement> make color density +2>OK>other print option (k)>advance colour setting> uncheck Match Monitor
In best mode this can give a quality which is equal to canon and HP. But if you use a photo paper and print in best mode, it will surpass HP and canon. If I give 100 rating to professionally (chemically) developed photograph. This will get 98, HP 3545 and Canon MP470 both will get 95. The colors are vibrant, you can see the details of even hairs, and ink droplets are almost invisible.
Print Speed: I used a page from science book in PDF version which contained a color figure and text. On A4 paper it took 4 sec for Black normal, 6 sec for color draft, 17 sec for color normal, 1.5 minute of best, and 2 minute for normal on inkjet paper settings. If we set normal color on plain paper it prints fast, but colors are fade (90% saturation) but if we set it to best, it prints great but will take 1.5 minute which is too long for one page. I could not find a good balance between printing time and print quality. For 4x6 photo it take 2 min in normal and 4 min in best mode.
Ink technology: It makes each droplet of 1.5 pL while Epson L210 takes 3 pL and Canon and HP in 3-8 pL ranges. It means it can print the same pixel using very low ink. This will result in much better print quality and low ink consumption. But to saturate an area with ink, it has to put twice the droplet than Epson L210 or at least three times than HP or Canon, therefore at fast print speeds, colors look washed out but when you make them vibrant it takes long time to print. The ink is water resistant compared to HP and Canon. Epson also claims their ink to be water resistant but I read in some reviews that it is not truly. I just put the print in water and everything was there. Only cyan ink goes a little bit with water. But the black letters were almost resistant.
Print Economy: The Black ink bottle contains about 100 mL ink and gives 6000 pages and cost 600 Rs. The color each bottle contains 35 mL ink and cost 1300 Rs (all three) and gives 5000 pages together. This values are ISO standard A4 page in draft mode if you use normal mode the ink consumption will be 20% more. So for black only text like a letter, it will cost 10 p for draft 12 for normal and 15 p for best. For color A4 text, 26 p for draft, 30 p for normal, 40 p for best, for A4 size full photo it will be 7-8 Rs, and 4x6 photo is will cost 2-3 Rs. But if you use third party ink like gocolor you can reduce all the cost by 10-15 times. But this ink reduce print quality and head life so if you print 50 pages per day and can finish 100 mL bottle in 3-6 months you can go for it. Otherwise for less frequent use, it will not be good saving in terms of cost of printer head.
Scan: It can clearly scan with sharp and good contrast, scan is about 40 sec for A4 300x300 pixels.
Copy: It takes 30 sec for black normal, 1 min for color normal, and 3 min for color best quality. Colors are reproduced. You can change copy number (1-99), resize (reduce and enlarge) and You can copy both sides of ID card on one page.
Initial set-up: it is easy just turn it on and fill the tanks. Filling is simply like pouring water from a bottle into a glass.
Comparison with its competitor Epson L series printers (L210, 220 or 300, 320).
Good: It has an LCD, Epson has nothing. We can change copy no. and copy quality, Epson can print only either 1 or 20 copies together only at normal quality. Printing cost is higher for this compare to Epson, but can be overcome if you use cheap ink. It can print at much higher resolution then Epson. It can print photo at quality like a dedicated photo printer but Epson cannot. It has scan resolution 1200 X 2400 but Epson has 600 x 1200. It has large tank for black but Epson has same size. The tank is not external but part of machine and it is in front, so we can easily check ink level. The build quality is much better, and it has LCD display with several control. We can change copy parameters in this but not in Epson.
Bad: At high quality, it is slow in speed. The ink is expensive than Epson.
Verdict: It is a great printer with ink tank. The printing cost is at least 10 times less than HP/Canon. Photo and black print quality is perfect. It has a good buildup and design. Only problem is print speed is slow at high quality. Update the firmware and software to improve it further.
Update after two years.
In 2 years I printed about 5000 pages. Then it started giving white streaks. I cleaned nozel several times. The service centre said I need to replace head costing 4ooo rs. I sold it on OLX and bought Epson l380. Which gives better print but in other features are poor. Let's see how long it lasts.
