I'm a big Breville fan, so it pains me to drop this a star, but this little mixer just can't hold a candle to a Kitchenaid, which is a brand I actually don't like. And, to be honest, seeing this from a review-reader's point of view, it's probably not deserving of more than 3 stars. I needed the small size and weight, so it's uniquely useful to me.
--LOVE being able to rummage around in the batter and stir stuff, unlike with the Kitchenaids (that DON'T get everything mixed)
--Steel bowl is nice shape for working
--Love Breville's plugs with the hole for unplugging.
--Small enough to work in my little RV. Light enough to move about from storage. The only practical size stand mixer I found.
--Supplied spatula fits well with bowl and is sturdy.
--Two motors. What happens if the bowl turner dies? Sure, it can be used as a $25 hand mixer, but it's heavy in that capacity.
--Too many tiny parts on the beaters. They are very difficult to get clean
--Top buttons that run the beaters are not easy to operate. Takes two pushes to start the beaters. One is the on-off slider, and then you have to keep hitting the + or - button to increase or decrease speed. Makes a mess if you get dough on your fingers.
--Doesn't clean the bottom of the bowl under the beaters, so you have to stop the motor and raise the beaters to scrape underneath.
--Expensive, considering the all-round lower quality of the materials used to make this. I'm ultra careful cleaning it for fear of scrubbing off something important.
That said, it's such a good fit. I'll learn to make this work.
That being said, some hand held mixers can be upwards of $100 and not as good as this one and you get the option of attaching it to a base, which I think is a great deal overall.
When an item was clearly returned the seller should check to make sure all parts are accounted for and that the unit is functional. This unit was missing a part and indeed not functional. We are very sad about this as it was an Xmas gift for my mother.
