Note from the Author:
This series is written in US English.
There is a strong romance theme in True Calling and if you only enjoy hard science fiction then this is not the book for you. There is a cliff hanger in this book, and it's not a standalone read. Thank you for taking the time to check out my work.

5.0 out of 5 stars That is pretty much all I can say to properly express this ... 30 April 2015
By A. Hodges - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
OMG. That is pretty much all I can say to properly express this book. I loved the first book very much, but this.....*input words when thought of*

The author does such a good job of tying the books together. There were small hints here or there in the first book that pop up in this book. I wanted to jump up and scream "I KNEW IT!!" but I refrained so I didn't scare my dog to the point of heart failure. She does such a good job of giving you little tidbits of information but not revealing it until way later in the books, sometimes it seems you won't know until the next book.

This book is set back on Earth in various location around the compound that Ariana and Zane are in. You get detailed descriptions as you go, so even if it still has futuristic qualities to it, you are able to picture it all as you go.

As in the first book, I still can't decide who I want Ariana with. I was thinking that one boy would win out over the other, but it didn't happen. I still love Cal as well as Zane. I have a slight lean towards Zane, but it changed back and forth through the book. The way the book ended put me slighty towards Zane, but again I think that could very well change in the next book. The way the book ended gave me the feeling that the next book will have some important information come out right away for me to be able to decide once and for all.

Ariana did seem very selfish to me in this book. I do understand it all, but she does tend to hurt people with her actions along the way. I still really like her as a character but there are times when I want to strangle her for what she does. She gets so single minded in her ways that the rest of the world seems oblivious to her. When she finally realizes what she has done, she curls into a shell of guilt. I have seen her grow so much from the first book and I know she is about to change even more before the trilogy is over.

Zane is one of my favorite characters. He is so sweet in all that he does, though I can also say he is pretty single minded as well. He doesn't intentionally hurt anyone which is so sweet. Even when he does make mistakes bigger than he ever imagined, Ari is all that he still sees. That kind of devotion is so heartwarming.

There are other characters that show up in this book that you met here or there in the first book, but you really get to meet them in this book. Most of them give you a huge sense of anger that you wish you were in the book to make them pay for all they do to others. It is amazing the amount of emotion the author can pull out of you as you read along.

The book is a longer book compared to a lot of books coming out, but it wasn't a book that felt drawn out. Each and everything she types into words is important. The smallest things pop up later in the book to have a bigger meaning than you could ever have thought. She is able to write scenes that are slower but still drag you further and further into the world that you are devouring with your eyes. I read quite a bit of books, and even if I give something 5 stars, it doesn't mean that it completely floored me. This book has sucked me in and left me speechless when I ended it.

The author in her typical style of the last book has left us with a huge cliffhanger. She gave so many little hints that there is something huge about to happen, but she left you with all of it at the end. You want to scream and say that you need the next book. In a good way though :) It isn't the type of ending that leaves you angry. It is a very suspenseful that will leave me wanting to bite my nails (which I don't even do!) until the next and final book of the trilogy finally comes out so I can get all my answers!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read!!! 20 May 2015
By Robin A. Thomas - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Review: Thank you Reading Cove for providing me a copy of this book. This is my honest review of the book. Beyond Reach, the second book in the True Calling series, maintains the high level of energy and suspense that was built in Book One and then “kicks it up several notches” as Ariana returns to Earth with Zane and the war between the Government and the Clementia rebels escalates. The romantic aspect of the series gets even more complicated in Beyond Reach. Ariana is still crazy in love with Cal but without giving away any spoilers, she is given ample reason to wonder if she really knows the man she loves. Zane has a deep love for Ariana and she has feelings for him but since her memories of Earth were erased when she was sent to Novo she does not fully understand her ties to Zane. To complete the love triangle there is someone who is in love with Zane and knows that she has no hope as long as Ariana is back in his life. She makes it her mission to get rid of Ariana to free Zane to love someone else. Ariana has left so much behind when she escapes from Novo but will not rest until everyone she loves is together again. To do so she puts herself and Zane in grave danger.

The author has created a solidly written series that is pure delight to read. In Beyond Reach there are aspects of the plotline that seem to carry on from hints provided in the previous book or are logical steps in the progression of the story but the author weaves in so many unexpected events and twists into the storyline to maintain the suspense and addictiveness of this book from beginning to end.

The characters are well developed and believable. Although I am a fan of Ariana, there were times when the decisions that she made just drove me crazy, but when I thought about it seemed age appropriate for her even though they resulted in putting her and those she loves in harms way.

Beyond Reach lays a solid foundation for Book Three and I am waiting impatiently for the next installment in this series. Rarely do two books by the same author make my “best reads” of the year but I have no doubt that these two books will be high on the list. I can honestly say that this series is just fantastic and I most highly recommend it to those readers who are looking for a really good young adult dystopian series. Additionally, I offer my sincere thanks to the author for creating such a great series that has me completely hooked and has provided many hours of thoroughly enjoyable reading. Bravo!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate love triangles with the white hot intensity of a ... 27 November 2015

I hate love triangles with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. However, my friend Brandy adores them--the more messed up, the better. But even she had a problem with one of the triangle members in this book. Her exact words were, "Maybe I'm just biased when it comes to men, but I wanted Zane to grow a pair. Being in his head was depressing. And if I'd had a gun, I would have blown my head off." So when she wanted to do a buddy read, I was naturally hesitant.

The reason I'm saying all this is because it was surreal how we switched places. Her view was the one I should have taken. But I had no problems with any of the characters in this book. Are they perfect? No, far from it. They all made mistakes. But eventually they all told the truth to one another.

Zane withheld information that could have helped Cal recover; Cal inadvertently got Zane captured on Novo. In my book that makes them even. Ari was even keeping secrets. I even have some sympathy for Isla. At least they all learn from their mistakes and move on.

Brandy thought Zane was always whining about Ari. I thought he was upset about her, but his reactions didn't bother me. In fact, I thought he had some of the funniest lines in the whole book. Like this one:

Ari-- "We don't understand how, or why, we're connected in that way. But we were...close friends before I moved to Novo, so maybe that has something to do with it."
Zane-- Oh, to hell with this. "She's the love of my life. I think that's probably got more to do with it."
For Zane's sake, it's a good thing Cal was locked away in a jail cell at the time that little tidbit was revealed.

There's plenty of fighting/action for all you fans of that, but for me, the personal drama was more interesting.

Cal-loves Ari, no psyhic bond. Ari-loves Cal. Zane-has psychic bond, loves Ari. Ari has psychic bond with Zane but (view spoiler) and only loves him as a friend. Isla loves Zane, has no psychic bond. Zane only loves Ari.

I don't think I suddenly woke and decided that love triangles were great. More likely, the author managed to create characters that I can sympathize with and root for. I have a favorite, but that doesn't mean I want the other guy to be miserable.

Another wonderful book by a super talented writer. I loved the first book in this trilogy, much to my surprise as wouldn't normally read this genre but the fantastic unique plot and the strong and likeable characters sucked me in as well as the good writing style. Beyond Reach was even better. Can only describe this book as pure genius. Brilliance at its best. I have never read such an engaging book in my life. It is full of twists and surprises that keep the reader interested and admiring of the creativity of the author. I strongly feel that it would be an utter travesty if this series is not adapted for the screen. It would be a pure winner and I think all relevant artists would experience a real adventure working on it. Would highly recommend this book and can't wait to start on the next one. I would have no hesitation in nominating this for an award.

This book for me was just as good as the first. I was a little frustrated with Ari in the book only because I was reading Zane's POV and how much he loves her. I know it is not her fault that she can't remember him but still! There was plenty of action and twists to keep me entertained. That dang cliffhanger has me frustrated yet yearning for the next book to know what happens.
