This book- Beyond the Credence, is a simple book in all terms. It is a compilation of the social pressure and the mental struggles experienced by a girl named Apeksha. She only a few weeks away from her 12th board exams. And this is a moment that demands her to make some stern decisions. Ancient literature has always attracted her but her family wants her to pursue something more practical.
What will she do now? Will she murder her passion and take up a practical lifestyle or keep the lantern of her desire burning?
What do I think?
The story highlights the most important moment in the life of every teenager. This is the time when you are about to complete school. You are expected to start college but everything is haphazard. Most students fail to make the right decision because they don’t have the right resources or adequate knowledge. And most of the times what students want to pursue is way beyond practical.
Apeksha is facing the same dilemma. On one side she loves Vedas and other ancient Indian literature. But on the other side her father wants her to choose something that would sustain her. And not just that, it appears that Apeksha comes from a reputed family of scholars and academics. It puts all the more pressure on her. So will she crack under this pressure?
What did I like?
The book focuses on ancient literatures which is not an everyday sighting. Through Apeksha’s eyes you get to admire ancient Indian literature. The struggle is genuine. Apeksha represents every student who doesn’t know what to do once 12th boards are over. It also manages to shed light on the constant battle that goes on in any household regarding career choices. Of course parents are resilient to let their kids choose something that might not pan out for them. And this ultimately outs a lot of pressure on the kid.
Besides this the cover is amazing and the text is perfectly spaced.
What didn’t I like?
The literature of this book is poor. It appears all the book does is delivers a story. It doesn’t paint scenes for you. The literature can be definitely improved with some fine editing.
The beginning is weak. It lacks gravitas and doesn’t demand you to carry further.
Would I recommend it?
I would say about 50-50. The story is great but the narration can use a lot of polishing.
This book motivates you to do things even when no understands your compassion towards something, which is something everyone should believe in, the way Apeksha had that zeal to do things, she did her proper research and tried to do the most even when there was not much provided in front of her, is something we all shall do, rather than bluffing its important to keep yourselves involved in things you are the most compassionate about.
Another thing that this book highlight is our rich culture and ancient knowledge which we do not even know about, we disregard them as old texts, but the truth is they are the root of all the knowledge prevalent in the society, it important to never forget our roots, our Vedic system and wide network that they had properly build.
Although a slight but a powerful reference has been made for women equality and empowerment, that sometimes you might be the only female person in the field, but never give up on yourselves. This book was quite a nice light read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the best part was it felt like home, it didn't felt like something out of extraordinary rather it felt like Apeksha was my own sister or someone just next door.
I would definitely recommend it to read, especially to anyone who is anxious about making a choice towards there passion.
