About the Author
Apart from steering BHEL, Maruti Udyog and SAIL to positions of repute, 89-year old V. Krishnamurthy has also served on several prime ministerial committees and the Planning Commission of India during his long career in public service. He was a member of the National Advisory Council in its first tenure. He has been chairman of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and Bangalore, the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. He was conferred the Padma Vibhushan in 2007 for civil services.

This book gives you a history of how the major PSUs - BHEL & Maruti - were setup. The leadership that the author shows under various scenarios are well explained, and a must read for prospective leaders, especially if you are managing Indians. He clearly explains in spite of several odds, we still have ways to achieve goals if we are determined to achieve goals.
Book is well written, and you will get engrossed till you finish. My friend asked me to read this book and compared him to Jack Welch of GE. Having read Jack's autobiography many years ago, I totally agree to my friend.
The book is a primer for managers and administrators. A very valuable book indeed.
The book needs to be translated into other Indian languages. There is a definite market for the book in other languages.
The Foreword to the book is too long and boring. I think a book by Sri V. Krishnamurti needs no foreword. In the next editions, I think foreword should be deleted.
Inspiring, interesting and this thoroughly blunt memoir is definitely worth the read.
Its no surprise that a man of his calibre only could steer a sinking ship to shores.
His 'Alma matter' BHEL is devoted a major portion of the book and he is the man for all success of BHEL has achieved.
And then he deals with how the then government
was so seriously dedicated to gifting the nation with a car-'Maruti'.
A must read for budding managers to understand the various management principles he meticulously adopted with
