If you thought the recent DOUBLE DOUBLEs were big (the "Archie Double Double Digest" #238 and the "Betty and Veronica Double Double Digest" #212, both of which are 320 pages each), wait until you see how HUGE this book is. It has the same dimensions as the other Archie Comics Digests, except it is about 2 inches THICK.
Overall, it feels like an extremely thick, short, trade paperback.
There are tons of regular length stories, a couple of two-part stories ("Tropical Tantrum," "Puff Piece," "The Clutch of the Idol," etc.), a few one-page gags, a couple puzzles, NO ADS (except a general ad for Archie Comics on the inside back cover). There are a couple Ginger Lopez stories too. There are over 100 stories in all.
Funny enough, some of the resent "Betty and Veronica Double Double Comics Digest" #212 is also printed in here (namely, the 1950's Betty and Veronica stuff with art by Bill Vigoda, George Frese, and Dan DeCarlo).
Sadly, there is no Little Archie to be seen (apart from a 2 page flashback in the middle of a teenage Archie story). I don't see Cheryl Blossom, Sabrina, Jinx, or Kevin Keller in here either. There aren't any of the "other" Archie Comics characters in here (like "Super Duck"). No "New Archies" or new-art-versions. No "Love Showdown"-esque stuff either.
Just the regular fun stuff with the usual Archie gang.
They even tried to put full credits on most of the stories (some are missing, of course), which is a very nice touch.
There are three of these currently scheduled from Archie Comics! This one (Archie 1000 Page Comics Digest), and the other two: Archie 1000 Page Comics Extravaganza and Archie 1000 Page Comics Jamboree. I've pre-ordered them, and I can't wait. With over 200,000 pages of original comic material in Archie Comics' vault, we will hopefully see a lot more of these (some themed ones, I hope: Sabrina, Adventures, Monsters, Mysteries, Jinx, Super Teens, Little Archie, etc).
My DREAM is to eventually see a 1000 page LITTLE ARCHIE Comics Digest (or a few!)... Pretty please, Archie Comics. I love those Bob Bolling comics, and the current two 95+ page trade paperbacks just whetted my appetite. Hopefully, if the current 1000 page Digests sell well, that will happen.
Thank you, Archie Comics for really digging into your back catalog and pulling out a lot of classic winners for all the Archie readers out there.
I read it as a kid in my middle & high school. Now gifting it to my wife to live the world that I lived as a kid. I'm sure she would like it. :-)
