My primary interface is a MOTU 828mk2, and I was having some noise/level issues with it. When recording direct guitar, the signal needs to be as clean and noise free as possible, because when you send it back out to a regular amplifier any noise present in the source gets amplified as well. The 828 has fairly good mic pres in it, but nothing like this. I can record a crystal clear DI track with it at much higher levels (-3db of headroom or so) and when I send it back out through my reamp chain the signal is immaculate. No noise, no hiss, no crackles - exactly the way it should be.
I'm extremely happy with it - it does exactly what I wanted it to do, and was worth every penny. Crystal clear signal quality with no noise. 5 stars.
I'm docking one star off its rating for that reason and also because every time I plug it in, Google Chrome crashes. I don't know whose fault this is, whether Apogee, Apple, or Google, but it's annoying and has not been addressed. This should be a non-factor if you don't use Chrome, but it's worth noting.
