This is an interesting book and first for me on the subject - plastic surgery.
The story starts with Dr Dhruv passing the PG entrance exam and joining Arogayam Hospital. and, his journey towards becoming a plastic surgeon begins. finally he has a full fledged hospital in Bombay where celebrities and common man both come for surgeries.
There are not twists or upheavals in the story and its all about, with minor details, how plastic surgery was done on a particular patient. the first part of the book is pacy but the second part drags , probably, in the need of a proper end and ultimately ends unceremoniously.
Though the story is not exciting but the narration is interesting at some places. the conversation between the Doctor and patient are funny at times.
I rate this book 3/5.
Plastic Surgeon, Jas Kohli, starts his Plot with telling the Qualities of a Good Surgeon.
Then starts with the Plot with declaration of the result of M.Ch. (Master of Chirurgiae) which is topped by our Narrator Dr. Dhruv Khanna.
The Novel talks about his journey as a Resident doctor in Plastic Surgery Department of Arogyam Hospital under the guidance of Chief Dr. Vidhur which made him one of the Best cosmetic surgeon.
During his senior year, He was assisted by his Junior Dr. Nandini with whom he got married after his Masters. Then, He got separated from her because She wanted to pursue MD in paediatrics from Assam.
The Story went on with Dhruv attending an International Conference at Mumbai and then doing an Fellowship in US with the help of Dr. Palmer. After returing from US, he was pursued by his Father Ravinder Khanna to settle in Mumbai.
The Novel talks about How was his Journey in Mumbai? How He makes it Big in Bollywood? What Struggles He faces before making his name? How he kept up the Pace with the upgradation of Laser Technology?
There are 2 more special character who needs to be specially mentioned Chitra and Murari.
Chitra is the gossip columnist, Starsworld and Murari is the Assistant at Tulip Plastic Surgery Centre.
Their presence made the Novel entertaining.
# Party Conversations when He Topped the Entrance Exam.
# Dr Vidur's way of Teaching.
# Dhruv falls in Love with Nandini.
# When Murari comes to rescue Dhruv whenever he was caught up in a situation.
# When Dhruv left his own Operation to operate Murari.
Negative Spot in Book: Story rolls out flawlessly without any turn or twist. In the Beginning, I felt that Dr. Jas Kohli tried to put in a Twist with the Mention of Dhruv's Ex, Manika and their conversation on call when he was in Chicago, but that didn't go well.
So, I would like to conclude by saying that "Anything to Look Hot" is a straightforward but fun novel and is a sure way to have a Sneak peek in the World of Surgery.
There are certain doctor terms used in the book where it was necessary. It may not be of a special interest to the individual who is not very inclined towards either of the two ' surgeries or celebrities.
