Speaking of the cover, it is simple, but the elements have really been able to convey the meaning and the overall themes in the book.
The plot line is also well constructed, and the pacing well set. The flow is smooth and proves really natural as the reader reads on. The introduction of new topics into the main narrative was also done in a smooth manner without any abruptness and that is another plus point.
The themes seen in this book are quite a few- ambition, love, family, jealousy, friendship, and so on. The growth or development of the self is also another significant aspect that the author works upon in the book.
The language used is simple, but that in no way reduces the quality of the book. It is utterly pleasing and a great warming experience.
Speaking about the characters, the protagonist Maya’s character grows throughout the book and towards the end we see her emerging as a confident and bold young woman, who knows what shew wants and will not let anyone convince her otherwise. One thing that I really liked was how Maya was someone who realized the importance of a career and ambition; I loved that she was practical and not at all stupid or restless like other female characters in love. The mother Kripa’s character is also one of much self-growth and we see her finally getting to live life on her own terms. Ashok was also a character of great understanding and he is every much the ideal boyfriend, I felt like.
The other characters also are well made with depth and round figures. What I also love about this book is that the author has not made this a simple love story. Every character is undergoing some thing or the other and develops themselves by the end. In this manner, it would not be wrong to say that in some manners, this book, while highly entertaining, is also didactic, without being boring and at the same time, an unconventional bildungsroman at times.
I quite enjoyed this book and I rate it a 4/5 stars.
"Like a beautiful flower, a daughter is a joy for a mother to behold."
Let's talk about cover first. As the cover is beautiful so the story. The name of the book itself says it's story of mother and daughter. I feel like the can made bit improved.
Story start in a small village of kerala. Our protagonist maya with a ambitious ready to live the life she wanted. This book basically talk about family thing. How and why every relation is imprortant. Kripa Maya's mother a loving person.
When maya in is mid age to get marry her parents start finding groom. As maya is small town girl she faces some trouble. She thinks to do something before marriage. And situation get worst for maya and kripa.
The starting part for the book is so well described i just loved it. After half of the book I felt little bit dragging.
The characters are really well developed and described. I appreciate author for this. The way both did there self discover is awesome. There are very less book which talk about family things i must say this is one of the best read.
This book will definitely give you something to hold for. If you're in 20s do read this book.
Author - Trishna Damodar.
Rating - 4 🌹
Starting from the beautiful cover itself,
You can easily say it's a story of A girl and her mother.
The story is set in early 1970s
The girl is from a small village of kerala and her name is maya, when she turned of marriagable age, her parents start to find her a boy , and on the meeting with groom, initially after receiving skeptical approach from groom's parents for her being a village girl and receiving acceptance . she has a conversation with him and that triggers her unsaid misery and she realises that there are some things in her life that need to be mended before she even thinks of marriage and in the attempt to do it, things get worse apparently for maya and her mother kripa. Their life drastically changes after the mishap and with all the weakness, they take a journey to be stronger.
This is about those two ladies and thus the name of the Book.
The story is divided into 2 phases.
This first phase is very beautiful, the emotions were so well described and a delight for the reader. This phase focuses more on emotions
The second phase was bit slow with few unnecessary things here and there.
The characters go through many phases of denial, acceptance and rejoice.
This book is written in a very pure manner.
The essence is just so fresh.
I just loved reading it.
Completed in two sittings
The beautiful relationship of mother and daughter is described throughout.
It also showed so many sacrifices of a mother and the way she is belittled repeatedly.
This book will leave something with you, and make you fall in love with the pure story.
