To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Our son is Hearing Impaired. Prior to viewing movies on Amazon Prime's Streaming Service our son used to see only the Movies with hardly any knowledge about the dialogues that were going on, with subtitles for the movies he has really started enjoying the movies as well. I appreciate this feature the most.
1.0 out of 5 starsRemote control isn’t working in just 2 months of my purchase
Reviewed in India on 28 September 2018
Just want to keep this feedback simple. The remote control that comes with the bundle has stopped working in just 2 months of my purchase and isn’t functional inspite of changing the batteries. This is pretty frustrating. No idea what to do. Worst, Amazon sells it separately for Rs 1999.
Just need an HDMI port and u are sorted.. 1. U need a good Internet connection (may be 5mbps and so) for decent watch. Even it can play at 1mbps but thr quality would not be that great. 2. Have in-house app store. U can d/l apps like Netflix, hotstar, sony, voot etc. You can see the free version content if u want from any of the apps. 3. For this to have a great use, one should have premium accounts of atleast two like Prime, netflix (Its not mandatory but or else you won't have much content) 4. Remote is good. I read alot of complaint about battery dying but i have been using it from more then 2-3 months now and haven't replaced the cell yet. Nonetheless you can d.l the fire tv app and its sorted. 5. My usage is almost 2hrs daily in weekdays and 8-9 hrs in weekend and I end up using appx 200gb of data (Airtel plan with speed of 40mbps). 6. What lacks is volume button in remote. Since some app have high volume some hav low. So u need tv remote. 7. I haven't recharged my DTH from last 2 months as I have paid subscription of Prime, netflix and hotstar. I think u don't need much as hotstar have news and sport channels other have contents. Moreover voot and sony liv have lot of shows which are free now e.g kbc, big boss etc. 8. I got it at 2500 (in the last sale, net price after paying from Pay balance). 9. One should only purchase it during sale as it will range between 2500-3000. 10. You tube can be seen from silk browser. Thr's also an app which can be used. 11. If u are planning to use this as Mirroring is not great (GoogleChromecast is superb for that). 12. I think I had covered almost every point. My intention of putting this review before this sale is so that u can judge if u want to buy. Also I had almost used it for 2months so i am giving it 5 on 5.
Amazon firestick is costlier than chromecast. The only effective additional feature of this device to chromecast is Bluetooth connectivity of headsets and speakers.
Youtube application runs from a browser installed on the firestick (Firefox or Silk by AMZN) and there is no voice search in youtube. The firestick remote control has to be the most horrible human computer interaction of this century!
Do not expect a pleasant experience with any of the Google products! Since they are a direct competitor in most home user hardware by AMZN. (Firestick and Echo of the top of my head).
It is very important to prioritize your preference than to get carried away with what is there in the market or is in trend. My issue was to understand what should I be doing, whether to buy a smart TV or to utilize my existing 10-year-old LCD TV and make it smart. To be honest, I wasn't very sure that investing on any current generation smart TV would make any sense, as technology in the current scheme of things, becomes obsolete before you could actually enjoy its merits. Plus, I really didn't want to invest on a 4K panel TV now and wait for a year to complete my EMI. It just wasn't worth the expense now (is what I felt). I own a Sony Bravia, 2008 LCD 32 inches TV and find it awesome even now, for all my viewing experience. My second reason for indecision was the choice of app loader, between the Chromecast and the Fire Stick. In most of the reviews, it was clearly mentioned that Fire Stick was more organized and has its own OS and Chromecast was more the google way of doing things. Having seen most video reviews, I decided to go ahead with the Fire Stick as it gave me a confidence of a complete family entertainment package. And God am I glad, that I made the right decision.
I had ordered my Fire Stick during the big sale. I received the item within 2 days as assured by Amazon. The installation was very simple and easy. I had to either plug it in the USB slot or use one of the HDMI port. Initially, I decided to follow the latter, as I had many slots available. Although, I realized the inconvenience of using a plug point to connect with Fire Stick. Later I decided to switch to USB mode. I was apprehensive in the beginning as I assumed that the setup process in terms of logging in would be very cumbersome. But to my surprise, I didn't have to give my login credentials!!! Being a Prime member, my details were pre-fed and only to other apps such as Hotstar or Sun Nxt, etc, I had to upload my details!!! That was a sweet thing:)! The entire layout is intuitive and easy to use. The Bluetooth remote is a joy to use, though am aversive of using the voice-based navigation. It isn't always accurate.
You may wonder, why I reserved a star in my review. That's because I believe, there is always room for improvement :)! Like for eg, the output of Youtube isn't up to the mark (Not Full HD) as it uses a browser and not an app. The Amazon Prime video isn't loud enough compared to other contents. Maybe I'm nit-picking but yes these are worth a mention in a full-fledged review.
This is a below average product being sold at a higher price in Indian market. Remote is quite flimsy and if you use voice control often it sucks out the battery quickly. I am writing this review here to rant about the negatives only. With only 1 gb ram and less than 8 gb usable storage means you can't install lot of apps. The processing power of the stick is quite average and sufficient only to display 1080p content. Remote doesn't have ir or volume buttons so you need your TV remote handy. Typing anything using the firestick remote is a pain. With this price range the product competes against Googlechromecast and certainly beats it in lot of areas. However it is very far behind the experience you geton a android TV box. This firestick gets slow with time and the only way to optimize it is hard reset. Buy this only if you are getting it in a sale around 2-2.5 k. Amazon has launched the new firestick 4k which has improved specs competing with firetv cube their own lineup. Even though you won't be using 4k capability on your full HD TV, I would still recommend to get it because of its power and better remote.
Firstly I bought googlechromecast last year. Then I bought amazon fire tv stick. Fire Tv stick is much better and more user friendly as compared to googlechromecast. Pros of Fire TV stick: Very nice Bluetooth connectivity (Even in long distance) Very user friendly Can be controlled by Phone although remote is available
Cons Volume control not available on fire tv remote :( Battries discharge fast Some apps need updation
I have been using this Fire TV Stick for the last One year and It totally serves my purpose. I do no have any DTH connection for my TV and use only the firestick for entertainment. Box Contents: The box consists of a Fire Stick, a Power Adapter, USB type A to Micro USB cable for charging and a Remote.
Setup: It connects to your TV through a HDMI port. Power can be provided via the USB port in the TV or using the wall adapter. And above all it need Internet connectivity. You can provide internet via broadband WiFi or Mobile Hotspot. Setting up the account once the internet is easy and straight forward. Login with your Amazon account and you are good to go. You do not need an Amazon Prime account for the setup.
Storage: 8Gb internal storage but mostly around 5Gb is only available to install apps and updates.
Supported Famous Apps/Games: Prime Video, Prime Music, Hotstar, Netflix, Airtel Cinema, Jio Cinema, Zee5, Viu, Youtube (Via thrid party apps), Firefox, Riptide GP2, Asphalt (But storage won't be enough), Crossy Roads Etc
Unsupported Apps: Google Photos, Google Drive, Facebook, Jio Tv, Airtel Tv, Playstore
Pros: 1. Easy to setup. 2. Intuitive interface with curated content. 3. No stuttering or hangs with good internet speed. 4. Supports Phone Mirroring. 5. Casting support for Prime Videos, Youtube Videos. 6. Option to sideload Apks. 7. Very responsive remote. 8. Remote app available to control from phone. 9. Alexa for voice search. (Included in the new update) 10. Above all, its a stand alone device unlike chromecast.
Cons: 1. The screencast has a slight lag making it difficult for gaming. 2. Voice search in the remote works only for the content in Prime Video, Youtube and Browser. 3. Not a great game collection. 4. Limited storage and no SD card support. 5. Cannot control TV volume and On/Off. 6. Slow startup times. (Best to not switch off the adapter) 7. No option to add another amazon account. Only one account at a time. 8. Remote is battery drainer due to being Bluetooth rather than IR.
Conclusion: If you have a non-smart Tv and good internet at your home, then look no where else . Just be prepared to keep both the tv and firestick remote at your reach.
-does not work with alexa devices like Amazon echo. This was my primary reason for buying this for my Amazon eco system so everything could be voice controlled with alexa. But this feature is not available in India as yet. On the contrary you can fully control Chromecast with google home devices. Which works perfectly.
-voice button only searches within amazon content and does not work when you are in other apps like Netflix
Well this thing is really good. Before buying the Amazon fire TV stick I searched a lot on YouTube and did a lot of research on different websites. There are some android boxes on Chinese websites having a better configurations on paper but they are not optimised for TV software so stay away from them also u won't get warranty ' software update and because they r from Chinese websites the returning is not so easy. Another option is GoogleChromecast 2 which has not really having so much of capability Under the Hood more or less like a cast device having same price not worth...
Amazon fire TV stick works like a charm ... Just plug on HDMI ports, connect to Wi-Fi network and login n here u go.
Pros- Easy to use. High definition rendering is good. No lag (software optimisation is good). Bluetooth connectivity support for wireless headphones and other devices. Voice search option in the remote with good accuracy. Amazon Prime video has a good and huge content.
No 4K here only hd quality... For big screen TV you might get pixelation.
Amazon Prime membership is paid 999 RS yearly but free for Vodafone postpaid mobile holders for a year.
Most of the apps have some premium content which is paid or required subscription like zee5 ,hotstar etc
No YouTube direct app support but you can run it from Silk Browser.
Screencast is not supported but mirroring is supported and works like a charm.( Can mirror your mobile and pc screen but with some lag)
Besides cons I must say that THIS device is really very good . I bought it for 3500 rs with 500 rupees discount .if you buy it you will not get disappointed.
When I decided to purchase Amazon Fire TV Stick, one of the goal was to use it for screen casting (display mirroring) device. Recently, I tried display miring between my laptop and my TV using Amazon Fire TV Stick. The outcome was disaster, it laptop got connected to TV using Amazon Fire TV Stick but display on TV was overlapped (i.e. display was broken and overlapped. Not fully visible). Also, after display mirroring started Fire TV stick get keeps on restarting every one minutes. This is disastrous outcome. Although, display mirroring from Android mobile phone works fine.
When I contacted customer case support team, they mentioned that display mirroring is only supported with Android Mobiles Phone only. It is not supported for Laptops. When I reviewed this product before making purchase decision, I think (not 100% sure) there was nothing mentioned related-to laptop device support.
My recommendation is "GoogleChromecast" rather than "Amazon Fire TV Stick" because "GoogleChromecast" does support screen mirroring on all devices.
Great purchase. I have the GoogleChromecast and the Fire Stick. Both are great to use, but the Fire Stick is a one-stop solution for all the apps. I only bought it out of the need to cast Prime Video. However, on using it, I find it much easier and convenient to use other apps also (Hotstar, Netflix, Youtube, etc.)
One thing that you should check before you buy is the casting option from Laptop and Handheld devices. It casts my phone and I have tried it. However, I am unable to cast my Windows 10 Laptop even though the feature is allowed.
