This thing works SO SMOOTHLY. It quickly connects to my Android phone via bluetooth every time, I stream from Spotify constantly. The HD radio works well even though the antenna in my car is pretty weak.
The tuning app is really sweet. Easiest setup I've ever had. I'm running Fosgate 5 1/4s in the doors powered off the head unit amp and an MTX 10" sub in the trunk run off of a 20 year old MTX amp. Not exactly high dollar stuff, but this head unit makes it all sound AMAZING. Between the cross overs (HPF & LPF) and the equalizer in the app I got it all dialed in within a few minutes. Some of the other head units I've used required tinkering for weeks to get it sounding good. The built-in amp really pushes the door speakers hard, they sound way more expensive than they are.
Old style Alpine quality...
I've been around for awhile and this is along the lines of the known good design/functionality of products from them.
Ultra-slight hum at no/ultra low volumes levels; doesn't bother me, pretty powerful, for a source unit, single DIN.
But, what's packed in there, as well as sound quality and power, is good.
Don't be afraid of this beasty, unless you're looking for what it doesn't have.
Always target what you want, don't fight with what you don't.
Alpine has a free tuning app for phone or tablet with a simple and more graphical UI. It lets you create, save and apply settings for EQ, balance, fade, etc. BT has worked really well and the various audio sources provide lots of flexibility. This unit pretty much does it all. The sound quality is really good. It was such an amazing improvement over the stock system, even using the stock amp and speakers. We later added an amp and new speakers, and when the volume goes up, the sound is still really clean. This was a little more than some of the other units I was looking at, but its worth the price.
