Immediately started looking on line for a replacement laptop. So many choices, configurations and prices. I spent a couple of days looking on-line including the Newegg and Amazon websites. I saw this Acer on the Amazon website. It felt right. "I5" Intel CPU, 6GB memory and 500GB hardrive and Windows 10 to boot (no pun intended), all for under $500. Perfect!
I know some users want the 1TB disc storage and higher screen resolution but my main computer work is done upstairs with my large desktop. 500GB is really overkill for my needs. The screen resolution is fine for me. Mostly I use my laptop to look at the Internet. The 15.6" screen is a huge improvement over the 14" Thinkpad. I could have spent less money by going with a Chromebook but quite frankly, I like the Windows operating system.
This laptop is nicely finished and has the back-lit keyboard, another feature that I wanted. It comes free of "Bloatware". It is a pleasure to use.
Just a note on the Windows 10. After you go through set-up, it seems like Windows 10 points you in the direction of the new "Edge" internet web browser software. I guess this is a replacement for Internet Explorer. I used "Edge" for a day and just hated the feel of it. Also, the "back" arrow/button wasn't working properly on all websites. Like if I was looking at my favorite News website, Edge wasn't cooperating when trying to use the "back arrow" to return to the main news article page after I'd finished with a news article. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox which works pretty much flawlessly. It looks like IE also comes with Windows 10 Home but I just went for the Firefox option.
I also bought a mouse for this laptop. The trackpad is ok and it also has the Touchscreen feature but I feel more comfortable with a mouse.
I am very happy with my new Acer !!
