4.0 out of 5 stars Initial impressions (Unable to switch on post putting it in sleep mode solution provided)

It's been 7 years since I was using my old Dell laptop which weighed 2.7 kg & after a lot of research I decided to go for either Honor Magicbook 15 or this laptop. Even though this product costed 17k INR more (my buying price was 60k), below are the points that would justify this purchase.

    1. Very light weight. Doesn't feel like you're carrying it when it is in your backpack.
    2. Display having matte finish is good & the thin bezels helps make the screen feel bigger than being a 14" screen. 4k & 8k images are crisp & 4k videos are smooth.
    3. Battery is fairly decent. 100 to 65% after 3 hrs of usage while setting up windows, transferring 115 GB files from pen-drive, having 8 chrome tabs open & also uninstalling & installing software, all being done in parallel. It was on sleep mode for 17 hrs & the battery came down to 62%. So one can expect expect 7 to 9 hrs of battery life based on their usage.
    4. Snappy processor. Didn't try any programming software/video editors/games. They were not my preferences with this laptop at least at this moment.
    5. Design is good apart from the opening part (have to hold down the laptop & can't open using single hand). Can grab it easily & go, it won't slip. Body feels sturdy. Hinges are good & never gets stuck going till 180 degrees. Even though the bezels are thin, they won't bend when you're adjusting the screen angle. Keyboard doesn't bend when you apply more than moderate pressure.
    6. Thunderbolt 3 port makes it future proof. Have just tried file transfer & it was constantly transferring at 50 MB/s, while dropping down to 5-10 MB/s fore very few seconds. 35% of the time the speed went above 160 MB/s (hope you know the difference b/w Mbps & MBps).
    7. There's no sound from fan when it runs, like none. I didn't feel laptop being heated when I was working in parallel on the above tasks.
    8. Boot up takes less than 5 seconds (including fingerprint login) due to SSDs.
    9. Key travel & keyboard clicks are good.
    10. WiFi 6. Connections are good. Life's good.
    11. International warranty is a good to have option for travelling IT folks & students going abroad for higher studies.

    1. Mouse is plastic & not glass. Even though the scrolling is good & it supports windows precision drivers, the clicks are hard.
    2. Speaker sound is a big letdown in this laptop. Do go through my below observations to manage this issue.
    3. Keyboard lights bleed from the edges & also gets switched off automatically after around 30 sec which is irritating. I read somewhere that this can be changed in BIOS settings. Haven't tried this yet.
    4. Even though the design is good, the magnesium alloy doesn't make this notebook beautiful. It looks decent but not too beautiful, just like me.
    5. Don't think that the fingerprint scanner is as good as that of your mobile phone's. Works 90% of the time.
    6. Inclusion of Microsoft office 365 subscription would've been better.
    7. Few bloatware which can be removed in 15 min.
    8. Charger wire seemed to be too thin. Not sure of its durability (check the pictures attached).
    9. More no cost EMI options would've made more people to prefer this laptop. I got it under exchange which reduced the overall price by 8.5k.

    Things I observed:
    1. Took 20 min to setup Windows 10 (Single language) & 15 min to remove bloatware.
    2. When I have the laptop on my lap, the speaker sounds are too low. But when I keep them on wood like my computer table in the pic the sounds are bit more louder. As we know wood is a good conductor of sound, this might help. But, still the sound is low & if you're in a room that has a road from distance with medium traffic, or in a busy area like a cafe or airport, it's better to have a headphone along. For people who deal with online classes, meetings, media consumption, you can still manage in a closed environment.
    3. Even though the reflections on screen are reduced due to its matte finish, having a very bright light (mine was a 40w LED tube light at 5m distance) at your background can still reflect on your laptop screen. Might be the same case while you're working outdoors on a bright sunny day.
    4. I always felt like AMD Ryzen is better than i5 processor, but the idle speed for i5 is set to 1 GHz (not exactly sure here) in this laptop which results in no fan running while performing low end tasks. If you find the same laptop available in AMD Ryzen 5 version, do your research comparing the two. Same model with AMD Ryzen 5 may cost less but can come at an expense of fan running & variation in battery performance.
    5. This laptop would've been more worth if the cost was around 52-55k. But hey, Intel & Acer wants to make their money.
    5. You can find the screen brightness tests, benchmark tests for processor, SSD on youtube.

Recently found that when I close my laptop without shutting it down (lock & close lid/press sleep/power button briefly), my laptop won't wake up later even if I press trackpad buttons/power button/sleep button. Almost all models of Acer swift 3 has this issue even with latest bios. The only fix was to press the battery reset pin at the back of laptop for 30 seconds, wait for 15min & then press the power button. But this method was frustrating. This might get fixed in the next Bios update is what is being said in Acer forums.

Alternatively, you can change the power options in windows 10 settings and select 'Hibernate' for all actions (for pressing sleep button, closing lid directly, pressing power button. Refer screenshot attached). Since this model has SSD, the hibernate won't take more than 5 seconds so it's the same as waking up the laptop from sleep. After making this change my laptop didn't give me the above mentioned issue.

The reason I think the above issue was happening was, when the laptop went into sleep mode it was not identifying keyboard & trackpad when the user was trying to wake it up. Since it's a minor software issue, it can be fixed up easily in future. Checkout Acer community for more info. Vote my review if you found it helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight premium budget laptop

Overall a good laptop for business users.
Battery Life: Lasts me a whole day. My fair usage is running excel/ accounting software/chrome for most of the time. Fast charging is supported and can fully charge the laptop in under 30-45 minutes.
Processor: latest i10 i5, does not feel stressed under any type of multitasking that i throw at it.
Ram: 8gb ddr4 sufficient for daily usage.
Hard disk: nvMe 512gb HDD, being latest and fastest than sata. Boot/Shut down times under 5 seconds.
Display: 14" ultra compact with minimal bezels. all aluminium chassis feels sturdy with minimal flex. Matte display is 1080p full hd with high contrast ratio which makes it visible under direct sunlight also. However colour gamut might disappoint enthusiasts as the ips panel may feel washed out.
Keyboard: Excellent to type like with key stroke travel similar to lenovo thinkpads. Backlit in 2 stages.
Bloatware: Minor bloat ware which can be un-installed.
Weight: Under 1.3 kg makes it extremely light and easy to carry.
Acer update: software updates are taken care of.
Pricing: I found the pricing to be on the right side based on the hardware/i/o provided.

Overall a good compact laptop for the people on the go as it is featherweight, has an all day battery life, supports fast charging, has all the latest hardware including the i10 proc, nvMe sata, ddr4 ram, fast charging support.
