1 What is a ssd ?
ANS A ssd or solid state drive is a storage device like a harddisk but the spinning disks are replaced by memory modules and is a lot faster and more reliable than even the modern harddisks
2 How fast are they
ANS SSDs are amazingly fast in this products case it is an SATA ssd so it is limited to 600mpbs in a SATA 3 port and 150mpbs in SATA 2. That is just for SATA ssd but for NVME drives it is a whole another story
3 NVME What is that
ANS NVME or non volatile memory express is a host controller interface by which an m.2 ssd is connected to a ×4 pcie slot and these four lanes are connected directly to the cpu giving you blazing fast read and writes
4 What is TCL
ANS SLC - single level cell 1 bit per cell
MLC -multi level cell 2 bits per cell
TLC - triple level cell 3 bits per cell
Now about the product product it is manufactured on 12nm San disk memory chips
1 . 3 YEARS WARRANTY
2 . 400 TB DATA WRITTEN WHICH IS THE HIGHEST
TLC can store three bits per cell for greater data density and more capacious SSDs in the same form factor but its sustained write performance is comparatively poor to SLC and MLC based drives
It is a wonderful product and I will recommend it to all my friends but not all of us can afford a ssd for our computers if you have tight budget but still need faster than harddisk performance I suggest you take a look at SSHD or Solid State Hybrid Drive it is not as fast but relatively cheap
PS : It is an electrostatic sensitive device please GROUND YOURSELF BEFORE HANDLING the product to discharge any esd
If you buy this product please take the time to write about the things you love or hate about it
AS ALLWAYS THANK YOU FOR READING THIS REVIEW IF YOU FOUND THIS HELPFULL OR UNHELPFUL YOU KNOW WHAT TO
Amazon told me that manufacturer would be able to help. Called WD and they did an RMA process for me since there is a 3 yr warranty on the SSD. Had to drop off the bad drive at their local center - they tested and confirmed it was bad. A replacement will be mailed to me in a week or so - but it will be a refurbished drive and not a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hoping that the replacement comes in working condition.
A bitter experience overall - paying retail price to finally get a used drive!!! Thanks Amazon! - for tossing me over to the manufacturer.
Update (20 Nov 18)
WD sent me a replacement, which looks like a new drive (not refurbished, as I was told by their support team). I cloned my HDD and installed it. laptop working much faster now. I am upgrading the review to a 4 star from a 1 star because of my experience dealing with WD. Despite the early pain, the whole WD replacement experience was rather smooth - I want to show my appreciation for this.
Or you do not have money for 860, definately go for it.
1. Its a SSD thats the biggest plus
2. Light weight
3. Read/write speeds are awesome specially when upgrading from HDD.
1. Very bad service from local courier.
2. Plastic used in body feels cheap comparing to the price.
3. Crystal disk benchmark is showing
read: 548MB/s (560MB/s promised)
write: 507MB/s (530MB/s promised) even after running multiple times. Not a huge deal but even then its not as promised.
Now coming to the performance I did a performance test write speed showed somewhere near 520 and reading about 530. Booting happens in 2-3 seconds. Apps launching at nominal time period. Fully statisfied. Don't forget to register the product on WD website for warranty disputes.
Swapped with WD HDD with same enclosure and it worked.
Called WD support they asked to get a replacement from Amazon as drive is faulty and check again if the problem occurs.
Same problem occurred with one of the person you'll see in the reviews below. Let's see what happens with new one.
* No sound
* Light weighted.
* Brand value
* Its price . (but I am sure the price will come down in next 12 months)
For those give preference to advanced technology rather than its price point, you can surely go for it, because it will never let you down.

In the event it’s worked a treat. My PC now boots up to windows login in about 20 seconds and applications like outlook, excel, browsers, open up more or less instantaneously. I’d have been happy with that result from the £600 spend and doubt I’d have even noticed anything quicker. The only games I still play are ancient and undemanding, so unless something else wears out I’d hope to have the effect of a new pc for maybe another 2 or 3 years by which time everything I’d have bought today will be cheap as chips.
As for the SSD itself, I’m afraid I can’t really tell you anything useful that would help differentiate between this one and another one. I’ve used WD forever and it’s creditable that the HDD drives this has replaced were 7 and 18 years old respectively.
Fitting it was of course a doddle, if you can replace a fuse you can replace a hard drive, just remember to check whether you need a 2.5 to 3.5 inch bracket to mount it in the case as older cases often don’t have 2.5 inch drive bays.
Software Acronis True Image WD Edition
Conviene come prodotto?!
So I ordered this SSD as my mechanical HDD was getting on for 5 years old and had done quite a bit of work, so thought before it crashes I will upgrade. The idea being to clone my existing C: drive and at the same time speed the PC up.
My mother board is a Z97 from ASUS and has four 6G/s SATA 3 ports. so can handle SSD drives. So before you start this process here is what I recommend.
1. Do a 'checkdisk' on your old main drive because if there are any errors it (old C: drive), the drive won't clone.
2. If you are using the 'Acronis true image' program that is available free from WD then you need to buy an SSD disk that is the same capacity as your old disk or the clone wont work as it seemed to want to clone the empty bit of the old drive.
3. If you don't want to spend the extra £160 odd on an extra TB like me (My old disk was 2TB and the SSD is 1TB) then be prepared to pay for another program that can clone bigger drives to smaller drives like EaseUS Partition Master. (£20 odd ish)
4. You don't need to buy an external USB connector to clone the drive just disconnect your other drives inside your PC and use those SATA ports.
5. Don't expect the drive to perform as per the MNF claims. WD reckon the is drive reads at 560MB/s and Writes at 530B/s as you can see from the attached picture my read speed wasn't far off but the write speed is way off their claimed speed. (writing may be a more complex process, who knows..)
6. This drive is slimmer it seems than the slots in my PC so you might need an adapter sled.
Overall I am not disappointed but it was a lot faffier than I expected it to be and it does perform faster than my mechanical drive which is now drive 3 in the picture running at 120MB/s write speed. The product is a a 5 start product, but it got 4 because of the install complexities.
+ Mayor velocidad (exagerada velocidad)
The drive came as SSDs do, in a box so I fitted it to a USB caddy for migration (I've done this before so I have a suitable USB disk drive caddy).
I downloaded and installed the WD migration software (Acronis True Image WD Edition) and ran it.
It required a WD drive to install (the installed drive was HGST [now owned by WD] and that didn't do it !).
Fortunately I had a spare USB port and a spare WD USB drive so that problem could be overcome.
Once I ran the software it started but wanted the computer rebooted then never ran.
This seems a common problem (from the Acronis forums) but other than buying the newer version of the Acronis software no obvious fix.
I tried WD support and spoke to a very pleasant person for about 30 minutes. The conclusion seemed to be that it was a known problem, I had tried the obvious fixes (enabling USB boot and disabling secure boot in the BIOS) but there was little they could suggest.
I then looked for other data migration software and found Macrium Reflect Free.
Fortunately this worked faultlessly and after about two and a half hours my data had been copied.
I swapped the built in hard drive for the newly cloned SSD and the computer booted up without any issues.
I'm very pleased with the SSD (possibly because WD bought someone else's SSD brand) but it's such a shame that WD support it with flawed software. It appears that the bundled Acronis software is out of date which is why the paid edition was said to work.
I've used the WD software in the past and it has worked (from a failed WD drive to a new drive) but this was all very disappointing.
Well, with this SSD you will!
It had worked well until yesterday, when my laptop showed a message that it couldn't find a booting drive. Which puzzled me. So I rebooted. And it took forever but I was able to do some work. Everything took longer than usual and I put it on my internet speed (mobile connection, don't ask, it's a story for another day).
Today, when I started my computer, to my surprize, I saw a black and white VGA picture on the screen. Luckily, I still have a bootable Windows7 hard drive, from an old laptop of mine and I checked my 500gb NAND WD.
Surprise! The CrystalDiskMark benchmark showed that my SSD dropped it's speed more than ten times. Ten times, folks! Now, it barely matches an old usb 2.0 memory stick.
What is going on, Western Digital?
I bought your stuff based on the staggering number of positive reviews and because the price is better than Samsung's. I'm fuming now, until I get another SSD, to reinstall EVERYTHING!
Long story short, don't buy something just because it has a lot of good reviews. Just go with the trusty brands like Samsung. I know I will, as none of my Samsung SSD has failed. NONE!
I have put a fair number of these into older laptops and SFF desktops to replace the old spinning rust drives, though beware that the Samsung 860 is sometimes cheaper and is my #1 preferred replacement drive, it has a higher TBW rating and a longer warranty, with this drive my #2.
There is not much in it though TBH, so keep your eyes open and check the prices and if this drive is a keen price it is a no-brainer and you will not be disappointed, it offers great performance for this type of drive, 100TBW and a 3Y warranty.
