1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work! 20 February 2014

The speakers are fine except it they shut down after a couple of minutes of use. Reached out to the company but haven't heard back yet. I'll update if / when I get a response.

2.0 out of 5 stars An interesting concept, but not well-executed 1 July 2014
By Comdet - Published on Amazon.com
This is an interesting concept for an external speaker. Rather than use bluetooth for pairing, or connect with a 3.5mm cord, all you need to do is place your tablet on the holder and it will "pair" with the speaker. That's very appealing, but unfortunately it doesn't work well.

The speaker itself is nice looking. I had no problems with it holding a 7 inch and a 8.9 inch Fire. Very secure and not at all "tippy" feeling.

The build quality feels very plasticy. It's very lightweight, and some controls, such as the on/off switch on the back, feel flimsy.

To use it you turn it on, press the front button, and put your tablet on the holder. It does amplify the sound coming from the tablet, but only a very small amount. Even the most basic, cheap external speaker that is direct-connected (or connected via Bluetooth) sounds better than this speaker. It mainly adds more depth to the built-in tablet speaker without adding much of anything else.

It does NOT use bluetooth. It appears to "pair" with the speaker by acting as a resonator with the tablet's built-in speaker. Unfortunately, the connection has a habit of cutting in and out. In using it to watch a 90 minute movie, I had to turn it off and then on again four times since it just stopped working. To be honest, it's hard to tell when it is working - the sound is only marginally better than the built-in tablet speakers.

It did a much better job in terms of sound quality when I used a 3.5mm cord to direct connect the tablet via the AUX port on the back of the speaker. The sound quality moved from "is it there?" to "OK." Even with a direct connect the sound quality was only on a par with a very low-end eternal speaker and well below what an external speaker can produce that's priced at the same level as this speaker.

I'll give it two stars since the form factor makes it convenient to use on a desk, and the sound quality is acceptable when it's connected directly with a cord. On every other metric it's not a good product, and I would not recommend it.
