5.0 out of 5 stars No Experience Needed 5 June 2014
By Grateful Jerry - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This is the reissue of the 2011 release with new artwork now approved by Roger Dean and a better booklet. The album collects quite a few highlights from 9 of the 11 studio albums released between 1969 to 1983. Both the first album and Tormato are bypassed. Too bad we didn't get at least a live song or two. All of the Close To The Edge album appears over the two discs. I probably would've picked Survival and Time And A Word over No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed and Everydays. It's a bit of a shame that there wasn't room for To Be Over as well. On the plus side, the inclusion of the often overlooked The Remembering is a nice plus.

I really like the way this set is laid out song wise and it has a nice flow. It kind of reminds me of an expanded version of the Classic Yes album. I've become bored with best of/collection albums always being organized by chronology over the last 15 years for various bands and artists. I'd much prefer a collection album have it's own flow and an identity of it's own. It makes me think that someone actually put some thought into it. This album doesn't shy away from some of the longer songs and gives a pretty good overview of the band's output during this time frame. This is a great inexpensive collection for fans as well as a great introduction for people new to the band.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Yes Compilations out there. 11 June 2014
By MONTE M. - Published on Amazon.com

This is a solid Yes hits package & at a really great price. I believe the tracks selected for this collection make it superior to other Yes 2 CDs sets such as YesStory from 1992 and the 35th Anniversary set from 2004. The running order of the songs is great and flows perfectly! Including No Opportunity Necessary is a nice touch as this is a great early jem from Time And A Word. Parallels is also a great track & including The Remembering from TFTO is just flat out awesome!! All of Close To The Edge is represented here as well, which is probably their best album. Lastly, we get Tempus Fugit from Drama which is another nice little change up. Just a very well put together compilation that provides a great representation of this group's best work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Best Of YES 13 August 2014
By T Cleveland - Published on Amazon.com

This is one of the better Best of YES CD's out there, Please know that it does not seem to have any re-mastered versions, I am not sure where the master source came from. It is a very good collection of late 60's and 70's YES, with the exception of Owner of a Lonely Heart and Leave It which is really great, the acapella mix was a good choice. The Remembering was a good choice from Tales, I Love that song. I bought it to have in my car for road trips, just the right amount of really excellent YES. I do wish a few songs could have made it on the CD's, To be Over and Future Times. Starship Trooper could have been left off for these songs. If you are just getting into YES or are a long time fan, this is a very good selection otherwise. The Roger Dean cover is most excellent, I would love to have that lithograph. Buy this for a really good Best Of and at a good price. Do not expect the sound quality to be re-masters, But with YES at this price point and in the car it works just fine. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A ton of music at a low cost 27 March 2015

This 2012 compilation from Rhino is actually not bad at all. Although I am not generally fond of compilations, this 2-CD set works pretty well and is great to listen to in the car - I have a fairly long commute. Overall, as a long-time Yes fan, I found that this made a nice addition to my Yes collection although there were things that I liked and disliked.

I liked the overall package, which (inexplicably) contains some of the cover paintings from the live Yessongs album (1973) and comes with a cover for the CD case. There are also some liner notes that, while not breaking any new ground, will provide the new fan with a nice overview of the group. I thought that the track selection was pretty good, even though the emphasis on CD 1 is on three albums released during the 1971-1972 timeframe (The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge). In fact, Close to the Edge is featured in its entirety, which is pretty cool - most people regard it as their best album. One of my favorite tracks from Tales from Topographic Oceans (1973) made it on CD 2 in its entirety - this was another plus. Generally, I prefer CD 2 because of the wider range in tracks/albums. I also thought that the time period covered was good too (1970-1983). This was the time during which Yes made their biggest cultural impact.

I never liked albums such as the not-so-great experiment with an orchestra on Time and a Word (1970) or the arena rock of 90125 (1983) so those selections did not do much for me. I also did not like the fact that Relayer (1974) is only represented by a single edit (Soon) and that the 1969 debut and Tormato (1978) were ignored. An (ostensibly) representative overview for the new fan should try to include something from every album. I also did not like how the sound quality varies from track to track - some tracks are "hotter" than others so you will have to adjust the volume between tracks. The sound quality is not bad overall.

All in all, this is not a bad compilation and may be the best Yes compilation out there for the fan (old and new alike). You also can not beat the low cost of this set - you definitely get a lot of tunes for your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2 CD Set for any New or Seasoned YES Fan 23 February 2015
By Edge EM - Published on Amazon.com

I have been a YES fan since the beginning in the late 60's when they also did cover's back then. I've followed the growth, transformation & maturing of this band even through it's personnel changes & reunions. There individual & collective contributions have honed this band into one of the most unique progressive rock / classical fusion forms of music & mystical poetic lyrics in the history of music arts.
Wonderous Stories is just a small taste of this bands extensive repertoire. But it's a good taste.
