Unfortunately, installation of the plate on your phone can interfere with wireless charging, but there's an easy workaround (next paragraph.) The manufacturer should include this information in the instructions — I still would have bought this product, I just would have been forewarned. Basically the only instructions were limited to just the basics of "Stick plate to phone; slide magnet into vent; stick phone to magnet." I ended up buying two new wireless chargers before realizing it was the plate in my phone that was blocking them.
I have a newer Motorola Droid, and it completely blocked the wireless charging stand. There is, however, a workaround. I didn't want to stick the metal plate directly onto my phone, so instead, I stuck it to the inside of the case (see picture.) So, if I remove the case before putting it on the charging stand, it charges normally (duh.) That's the workaround. A bit of an extra hassle (especially since I have a wireless charger at work too), but I think it is worth it for the convenience and stability of this mount in the car. Again, however, this should be covered in the instruction materials.
The magnet is actually four rare earth magnets (probably neodymium) in an array under the rubber cover (see photo). They are very strong magnets (DO NOT let your kids or animals play with these—swallowing could be deadly), but they aren't strong enough to hold an iPhone 4S in an OtterBox Defender case (the thickest case made by OtterBox) without a little slippage. In other words, a thick phone case may slide off the WizGear after driving a few miles, but it probably won't just fall to the floor of the car unless you're doing some serious off-roading. The metal plates that come with the WizGear are so thin that they fit inside any case with no outside bulging or fitment issues. Three plates are included—one round and two rectangular. The round plate and one of the rectangular plates have self-stick adhesive and can be used even without a case for your phone.
With the cover removed, you can see how the item is held together. There is a metal plate under the four magnets and that plate is held to the plastic base by a single screw through the center.
I believe someone else here has a problem with mounting on his car's A/C vent and he disassembled the WizGear and used the center screw to permanently attach it to his car's dash. I may do this in my Jeep as the center dash bezel comes off very easily and I could rig up a mount in a few minutes.
EDIT: I stopped using this as the magnet in the holder interferes with the phone's compass. If your phone uses the GPS without relying on the compass for directions, you probably won't mind this issue, but when I'm off-road in my Jeep, I need to know which way is north without any external systems that may be compromised while in the forest.
UPDATE::: Since I purchased this holder it seems the clip part that you clip onto the vent has become loose. Now every time I remove my phone, the mount comes off with it. There are scratches on my vent's fins (whatever they are called). For the price I can't really complain. I guess it did it's job. Now I am considering purchasing the stick on version of this same brand since the magnetic hold is still really strong.
