5.0 out of 5 stars This makes my life better 24 March 2015

One of the best purchase I have ever made. Seriously. I have an iPhone 6-Plus, and using both magnets (included in the shipment) between the case & the phone, it attaches onto the mount very firmly. The mount also attaches firmly into my air vent (2006 Nissan Xterra). No jiggling or slipping. I can touch, swipe, etc on my phone screen without any risk of the phone falling or sliding. Great product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Prevents Wireless Charging, but there's a workaround; It's worth it. 27 May 2017

This is the best, most stable car mount I've found; better than the kind with gripping brackets, or having to stick something to your dashboard, or the other vent mounts that kept falling out. The stiff foam prongs that insert into the vent won't bend or break the air vanes, will fit any model, and create a firm, secure mount for the magnet. It's so easy just to put the phone on the magnet. It stays put and is easily readable (especially good for Google maps when you're driving.)

Unfortunately, installation of the plate on your phone can interfere with wireless charging, but there's an easy workaround (next paragraph.) The manufacturer should include this information in the instructions — I still would have bought this product, I just would have been forewarned. Basically the only instructions were limited to just the basics of "Stick plate to phone; slide magnet into vent; stick phone to magnet." I ended up buying two new wireless chargers before realizing it was the plate in my phone that was blocking them.

I have a newer Motorola Droid, and it completely blocked the wireless charging stand. There is, however, a workaround. I didn't want to stick the metal plate directly onto my phone, so instead, I stuck it to the inside of the case (see picture.) So, if I remove the case before putting it on the charging stand, it charges normally (duh.) That's the workaround. A bit of an extra hassle (especially since I have a wireless charger at work too), but I think it is worth it for the convenience and stability of this mount in the car. Again, however, this should be covered in the instruction materials.

1.0 out of 5 stars Almost good, but back to the drawing board 7 May 2017

I wanted to like this and it had potential, but I've had this a week and the metal prongs are now exposed and it scratched up my air vent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but not great. Better than a lot of other solutions. 9 July 2015

I bought two of these, one for each car. One of them holds a little tighter to the A/C vent because the rubber-covered "fork" is slightly tighter (see photo). Luckily, one car has vent louvers that are a little thicker than the other, so it worked out. If you have only one car and the fork does't grab the louvers tight enough, you can try squeezing the forks in a vise (I suggest using some kind of plastic or rubber vise plates to avoid damaging the rubber on the magnet forks). I did this to get the looser one to hold better and it worked a little, but it was never as good as the one that came tighter from the factory. Neither of these holds strong enough to stay attached to the vent louver when the phone is pulled off unless you slide the phone to one side or the other—pulling straight off will usually pull the WizGear with it.

The magnet is actually four rare earth magnets (probably neodymium) in an array under the rubber cover (see photo). They are very strong magnets (DO NOT let your kids or animals play with these—swallowing could be deadly), but they aren't strong enough to hold an iPhone 4S in an OtterBox Defender case (the thickest case made by OtterBox) without a little slippage. In other words, a thick phone case may slide off the WizGear after driving a few miles, but it probably won't just fall to the floor of the car unless you're doing some serious off-roading. The metal plates that come with the WizGear are so thin that they fit inside any case with no outside bulging or fitment issues. Three plates are included—one round and two rectangular. The round plate and one of the rectangular plates have self-stick adhesive and can be used even without a case for your phone.

With the cover removed, you can see how the item is held together. There is a metal plate under the four magnets and that plate is held to the plastic base by a single screw through the center.

I believe someone else here has a problem with mounting on his car's A/C vent and he disassembled the WizGear and used the center screw to permanently attach it to his car's dash. I may do this in my Jeep as the center dash bezel comes off very easily and I could rig up a mount in a few minutes.

EDIT: I stopped using this as the magnet in the holder interferes with the phone's compass. If your phone uses the GPS without relying on the compass for directions, you probably won't mind this issue, but when I'm off-road in my Jeep, I need to know which way is north without any external systems that may be compromised while in the forest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it. 13 June 2016

Works well so far. I have the Samsung Galaxy S7. My phone sticks on directly onto the magnet, so no need to stick on the magnetic pad it comes with. My case is thin and transparent, and even with my case on it still holds well but does not feel as secure as if it was directly held to my phone so I decided to still add a magnet pad in between my phone and case. You can barely notice it. It holds well on my vent, it does not come off when I remove my phone. I live in Chicago so there are plenty of potholes, my phone doesn't budge when I maneuver, or run over them. The wiz gear is small enough it does not disrupt the view of my dashboard.

UPDATE::: Since I purchased this holder it seems the clip part that you clip onto the vent has become loose. Now every time I remove my phone, the mount comes off with it. There are scratches on my vent's fins (whatever they are called). For the price I can't really complain. I guess it did it's job. Now I am considering purchasing the stick on version of this same brand since the magnetic hold is still really strong.
