Product Description

This is the Malayalam edition of Wings of fire: An Autobiography. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, the son of a little-educated boat-owner in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, had an unparalleled career as a defence scientist, culminating in the highest civilian award of India, the Bharat Ratna. As chief of the country's defence research and development programme, Kalam demonstrated the great potential for dynamism and innovation that existed in seemingly moribund research establishments. This is the story of Kalam's rise from obscurity and his personal and professional struggles, as well as the story of Agni, Prithvi, Akash, Trishul and Nag-missiles that have become household names in India and that have raised the nation to the level of a missile power of international reckoning. This is also the saga of independent India's struggle for technological self-sufficiency and defensive autonomy-a story as much about politics, domestic and international, as it is about science.

For all of us who drooled over "Straight from the Gut" and thought of great management style of Jack Welch, this book shakes you up to the core. A boy from a humble background goes on to put India on the technological map by his sheer will, passion, intelligence and humility. I recommend this book to:
a. Engineers to re-kindle their passion in technology
b. Project Managers to learn the perfect art of project management
c. Managers to learn the art of picking up a team and achieving goals, and above all
d. to aspiring leaders on building up their character, ambition and vision for their lives and lead their teams.
All in all, an awesome book to read the wise narrative of an exemplary Indian.

"If you want to leave your footprints in the sands of time, do not drag your feet."

These are one of the most enduring lines that still lay etched in my memory. I have read this book long back, and I don't remember when, but surely the essence remains with me even today.

This book is best suited for reading for the teenagers, to dream and to dare.
It shows, how a person from the modest background ends up in being the First Citizen of a nation of one billion.
It shows how a scientist, devoid of basic tools, helps in culmination of a program which other love to loathe and deride. It shows a man, who lived his life in terms of his principles and nothing else.
It shows how a common man, like you and me, can achieve when he can dream.

And finally, it teaches how to dream.

Read on, and dream on.

I am an ardent fan of this man, and so I may give a somewhat biased view... still I would ask young professionals, students, etc. to read through this book, so that they get an inspiration for looking at the larger picture, keeping sights on the long terms goals, and not get bogged down by small setbacks... A real inspirational story of a poor village lad, who made India stand upright in the world of science and technology... The only con about this book is the technological details on mechanical and aeronautical engineering, which may become boring to read at times... However, I would recommend to go through the whole book to appreciate the efforts of this inspirational figure...
