At first the charging cable looks like any other USB lightning charging cable. However, the charging cable separates into two sections. First, there is a long cord with a full USB port on one end and a small, round magnetic attachment on the other. The second section is fairly small, with a magnetic port on one side that complements the one on the long cord, and "male" lightning plug on the other side. The lightning plug is inserted into the lightning port of a compatible Apple device. When you want to charge your Apple device it's simply a matter plugging in the USB end into a charger or computer's USB port, and then bringing the two magnetic ends of the cable's two sections close enough so they magnetically "snap" together. The cable is, pun intended, a snap to use. I will be keeping the small magnetic adapter inserted in the lightning port of my iPod Touch, and now when I want to charge my device I only need to bring the adapter into close proximity to the magnetic end of the USB cable and the two "link" together and my device begins charging. Simple.
I originally decided to purchase this cable for one main reason: the lightning port on my iPod Touch tends to collect lint, dust, and whatever else is in my pocket or bag. Over time, the dirt and lint builds up and can interfere with charging. This is exactly what happened to my device, and apparently I'm not the only one who has experienced this problem (just Google the terms "lightning port charging problems" and you'll see numerous websites listed detailing this very issue). So, I dutifully took my iPod Touch to our local Apple store, and one of the employees diligently scraped away the dust and lint with a small device that she carries on her key chain for just this purpose. After much effort she was able to get my lightning port clean enough so that my device once again was able to charge whenever a lightning cable was inserted. But, so that the buildup of lint, dust, and dirt doesn't reoccur, I decided to look for solutions and came across this charging cable. By having a small magnetic lightning connector that I can leave inserted into my device's lightning port, dust and lint is effectively kept out. Problem solved.
Now, the only advice I would give the makers of this product is that the only thing I do NOT like about it is how far the small magnetic lightning adapter sticks out from the bottom of my iPod Touch (it sticks out about 5/16"). I imagine the reason for this is that they need to use magnets that are strong enough to keep the cable together during charging. However, I found at least one other seller who makes a similar product, but whose adapter that inserts into the lightning port is noticeably smaller than the one from this seller. With that being said, I still think this product is worth it, especially in light of the fact that it will prevent dust and lint from accumulating in my device's lightning port.
I hope my review helps others in their decision over whether to purchase this cable.
For the Android version:
The dongle that connects to phone is one of the cheapest I have had the misfortune of using. It lost its "hold" during the first day, during normal charging while using my phone. This does not prevent the cable from being used but it does make it annoying to use.
The dongle that connects to the phone is not strong enough to stay in my phone while unplugging the cable. The only way around this gingerly removing the cable by tilting it at an angle to disconnect one half of the adapter.
The cable itself is very cheap. I thought that was going to be the weak point of this item, turns out it wasnt, I lost the adapter before any other part could fail.
Summary: This item is a good proof of concept but needs consider upgrades to the cable wrap, magnet design, and connector strength.
For this offer sojitek will be shipping me a second cable free of charge, this has not effect my considerations.
