4.0 out of 5 stars Timely and Interesting 11 January 2015

This is a timely book and the author does a great job of giving a well thought through and systematic presentation of the world of India’s digital pioneers – companies like Flipkart, MakeMyTrip, Zomato, and many others which have in recent years become an essential part of our lives. In a clear, unhurried style the author presents an analysis of the different business models occupying the digital space (based respectively on commerce, content and connecting/brokering) and presents a few case studies on each type across many diverse sectors. Based mainly on interviews with the companies and their key staff and on relevant numerical data it delves into the key innovations, business strengths and technology interface that makes the particular company a leader in its field.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well researched and organized book ! 13 July 2014

The Mouse Charmers- The story unfolds from a country known for snake charmers to present day mouse charmers. "The mouse charmers are a new breed of entrepreneur in emerging India powered by internet and opportunities that it offers to create new markets and to cater to old markets in a new way."

Internet is vast by way of subjects and contents and so are the business websites discussed by Anuradha Goyal. To bring order to the chaos Anuradha smartly divides the websites into three section – Commerce, Content and Connectors.

Commerce section tells the story of retailers like Flipkart, MakeMyTrip, BigBasket and CaratLane. Content Section has the story of Zomato, Games2Win, ImagesBazaar and Chai with Lakshmi. While Connectors section tells the story of, Rang De, CommonFloor and IndiBlogger.

The book is very well researched and catalogs an untouched subject area in Indian context. In fact it has the potential to offer some lecture material for business school students who have lot to learn from book. Language is straight forward and content is well researched and organized. Though from a general reader’s point of view author should have included some stories of struggle and triumph. But even without them book doesn't become boring at any place and is a good read for anyone.

I will give five out of the five to the book.

Was hoping for little more in-depth analysis but it's very superficial and pretty much everything you could read on internet about the businesses anyways.

The Mouse Charmers by Anuradha Goyal is an enriching educational read for every single mind out there, which dreams of becoming a digital entrepreneur. Her work is a source of inspiration but more than that a motivating starting point for anyone who aspires to tame the mouse (yes, mouse of computers) and become a mouse charmer, some day.

Leave aside all the technical jargons, all the statistics and market trends for the time being. In addition to this, just stop comparing yourself with the already established players in digital market and blaming your destiny for not bestowing you with that extra click or rather read it as a kick. Simply focus on what actually is a digital entrepreneur and what actually is digital entrepreneurship, as you start reading it. Catch hold of basic concepts and the fundamental building blocks of setting up an e-business.

she has done an excellent work. Her effort in researching information can easily be sensed as you continue reading case by case. Not limiting to this, she not only shares the behind the scene info that is easily understood by a naive reader as well she also highlights the lacunae and loose ends prevailing in present scenario and sensitizes the readers about the scope of development while filling these up. So, in a way, she becomes a job provider (opportunity provider) in disguise.

I am all praise about the book and I am confident that this is going to be one of the best books from Radom House India kitty. Just to share with you readers, it took me more time than expected because there is more than reading this book, it is enriching.
5.0 out of 5 stars Light read, good overview, goes where few others have gone! 3 July 2014

India has been called the 'land of entrepreneurs'. The country is filled with entrepreneurial success stories, but few serious attempts have been made to make sense of successful Indian entrepreneurs. In this short book, Goyal sets out to understand India's leading (and in some cases, expected to become leading) digital entrepreneurs. In doing so, Goyal managed to go where few have ventured before. The book starts with a short foreword by Sam Pitroda, the technocrat who was instrumental in bringing about a telecom revolution in India. It identifies success stories of digital entrepreneurs in the Indian marketplace, from flipkart to makemytrip to Rang De, and takes a marketing perspective to understand how these companies set themselves apart from rivals and competitors. Easy-to-read book, providing a good overview of digital entrepreneurship in India!

I found the book to be very readable, even though I'm not a business person. Anuradha Goyal is insightful in her descriptions of the businesses and writes in a style that will hold your interest.
