I have got worst experience with zensar and this bread maker. it stopped working after using for 4-5 times. worst ever seen after sales support. customer support never respond to mails (when called they ask you to mail). I have to spend another 1200/- to send the faulty one to their warehouse. there after they have booked courier on me to pay again 6750/- which i have asked to return. Its a use and throw product. don't expect any repairs or part replacements with the pathetic support we have in India.

Update (16/03/2015): After some trial and error, I get a perfect loaf using the #2 bread program setting, dark bread and large loaf settings and the following ingredients - 260ml water, 1 and 7/8 cup maida, 1 cup atta all measured using supplied cup, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 1/2 teaspoons of yeast and about 1 1/4 tablespoons of salt (all using the supplied measure). You could use milk and butter for a softer bread. I've also tried it with a timer and waking up to the aroma of bread baking is truly divine.

Picked this item up in a lightning deal. From owning a breadmaker in the U.S., I learned that the trick to get a good loaf of bread is proper yeast and the best kind of yeast for a bread maker is the instant type which I bought from a baking items store in Bangalore (General Food Additives in Seshadripuram). For the flour, I used a combination of maida and atta in a ratio of about 2:1 (I'm slowly increasing the atta content to make it healthier). Measurements are as per book (I substituted olive oil for butter) and was thrilled to get a perfect loaf the first time itself. As for the Severin BM3990, it is pretty simple to operate - punch in the size of the loaf you want, the darkness of the crust, the bread type from 1-12 and press start - it's that simple. I'm yet to try the timer option or the other varieties of bread but don't see why they won't work as advertised.

We have been using this for about four months and though we can't claim to be experts, we're really enjoying experimenting. Operation is simple and straightforward. The construction and components seem solid and we haven't had any problems so far.

Bread making for us has been a process of trial and error. We have yet to get anything perfect like truly fluffy oven-baked bread but we still have made really tasty bread -- certainly better than anything we get at our corner store. We suspect some of that is a problem with our yeast. Also, with our precision in terms of ingredients (my wife is better than me).

But we've resorted to adding light baking powder to some recipes to help out. We also tend to make denser breads and are perfectly OK with that.

We don't use packaged mixes -- good luck finding them anyway -- and tend to just find a bread recipe and try it in the bread maker anyway. Sage-and-honey cornbread meant to be made with a cast iron skillet turned out just fine with the breadmaker, even with all the ingredients thrown in at once.

We'll keep working at getting that perfect loaf; five-stars for the product with the understanding that a bread maker will never truly beat an oven.

Going by the experience of others, I was a little apprehensive at first. But it has been a satisfying experience from the very first loaf I made. It came out soft and tasty and I was emboldened to experiment with the ingredients. But till now, every loaf has come out nicely. I read in the reviews that the yeast is the critical ingredient. So, I have used dry instant yeast brought from abroad by a relative but I have also ordered online from Bakersmart, Bangalore which I will use when it arrives. The Severin bread maker works efficiently and is simple to use and easy to clean.
