About the Author

Margaret Stohl is the #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of the Beautiful Creatures series. Growing up in the shadow of Hollywood, Margaret spent her adolescence crank-calling Harrison Ford, living across the hall from a John Waters starlet and waving to Starline Tours buses as they stopped to take pictures of her P. E. class at Mulholland Hall, where she first met Bentley Royce. These are and are not her stories.

As I sit here, typing out this review a few days after I finished reading Royce Rolls, I’m realizing that I STILL don’t know what I feel.

It took me a three days to get through the first half of this book, mostly because it took me a while to get used to everything about this book – the car names that the characters had, how disconnected they were and how much I struggled to connect with any one of them but the book did get better and I read the last half in a matter of two hours!

LET ME EXPLAIN:

1. When I say the word Royce’s, think Kardashians. Royce Rolls opens with their reality show on Hiatus, and the renewal of their sixth season seriously in doubt. The family is in a state of panic, except for the middle child, Bentley Royce who just wants a normal life and to go to college.

2. The book started off well enough, giving you a standard shocking ending in the first chapter and then going back in time and showing you how the characters reached there but getting used to the characters was a bit of a task for me. Honestly, these aren’t my type of people – I’m definitely more grounded but that doesn’t mean I don’t like reading about the rich and the famous (Case in Point: Gossip Girl)

3. I liked Bentley. I sympathised with Bentley. She was probably my favourite character with her ultra-scheming mind and her dreams to just be normal. I LIKED THIS GIRL WITH THE RAINBOW HAIR (Because HOW COOL IS RAINBOW HAIR?) but *SPOILER* How could she not recognize that the TWO BOYS SHE WAS PINING OVER WERE THE SAME? (I’m sort of shocked, honestly, and highlights that on some level, she was a very superficial character)

4.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book is better than you'd expect 3 May 2017

The book is better than you'd expect.

Bentley Royce is a teenage reality star. Her family's show, Rolling with the Royces, is facing cancellation. She's not so sure whether she wants the show to stay or go--she has dreams of other things, like college or her crush, Asa. The book is witty and smartly-written, and there's a couple nice twists in there.

It's fast-paced, snappy, and satirical. I highly recommend buying it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to get through but worth it 10 May 2017

Over all, it's a great book a really good one and clever one ! I would never have seen where this book was headed. With that being said, it was hard for me to get through 50% of the book. But after having finished it, it is worth it. It's amazing in an overall picture. I loved it and it's worth the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for fans of reality tv 17 April 2017
By Michelle@Book Briefs - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Royce Rolls is a young adult humorous contemporary by Margaret Stohl. I loved this book. I found it to be hilarious. It is no secret that I am a HUGE reality tv show junkie. I watch all of it…the good, the bad and the plain old trashy. I love it. And I loved Royce Rolls because it took all of the aspects of reality tv…from the filming and production, to the impact that being a reality tv “star” has on your life, to all of the absurd moments. It all worked for me. This book is pure guilty pleasure fun. Now, I will admit that if you find the whole idea of reality tv awful, and you can’t stand to even think about it…this is probably not going to be the book for you. You might find it superficial and gratuitous, and unnecessarily dramatic…which it is. But to be fair, those are some of the things I love most about reality tv. I found Royce Rolls to be a great time. I loved this book.

Royce Rolls was a blast for me to read about. I loved everything about the set up of the book. I loved the over the top characters, I loved the meddling from production, I loved the footnotes. It all worked for me. I think this book will appeal to a very specific reader. I think you will either love it, like I did, or it will be a complete miss for you. If you like reality tv, this is going to be a hoot and a half for you to read.

I loved Bentley, the main character. I thought she was likable and sweet. She was really easy to root for. I didn’t love all of the characters as much as I loved her, but overall I felt like it was a good ensemble. The real winner with Royce Rolls for me was the writing. I loved all the witty dialogue and the seriously hilarious moments. I thought this was an accurate representation of the reality tv aspect of our society today. Honestly, it felt very on point for me. I also liked that I felt like I was getting a behind the scenes looks at Hollywood and production, which is always really fun.

Bottom line: If you haven’t noticed by now, my theme for this book is fun. Royce Rolls is a really fun read. I think fans of reality tv will enjoy this over the top family, crazy moments and funny dialogue. I had a blast reading Royce Rolls. It was just as much a guilty pleasure as reality tv itself.

*Disclaimer- I received a copy of this book for free.

2.0 out of 5 stars All of the characters are horrible. I get that they're "characters" 11 April 2017
By stacee (book_junkee) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Even though I don't care for reality tv, I was intrigued by this premise, especially with Margie's background. For me, this was a mess.

All of the characters are horrible. I get that they're "characters", but I couldn't find anything redeemable in any of them. Bentley had promise, yet I still struggled to root for her.

The format was odd. There are loads of footnotes {that I'm still not entirely sure wtf they were for}, press releases, Twitter updates, and storylines inside storylines. There were a few sparks that engaged me and got me to continue, but I was mostly trying to keep from DNFing. I'm only rating it 2 stars because I finished it for some reason.

Overall, I can see that this will appeal to some readers, but it wasn't for me.
