5.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best LG cases money can buy! 20 June 2015

At this point I feel its safe to say that this is one of the BEST cases available for the LG phones.
I have had a defender on my iPhone 4S which wasn't so good (still allowed the screen to crack) on the top corner, but on the LG G3 the Defender case was good. My only gripe with the LG G3 version of the Defender was that the built-in screen protector did not seem to fit properly to create a nice seal over the screen. Air bubbles, and other contaminants would somehow make their way between the glass and the special plastic protector which bothered me a bit.

With the LG G4 Defender case this problem has been fixed, almost to the point where the phone fits TOO tight in the inner layer of the case. I was concerned about the fact that the G4 has a slight curve on the surface of the touch screen and I figured that this screen protector would certainly be worse than the last case I owned, DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE. I love the G4 variant! But be aware: If your phone features the leather finish or something other than the standard finish available for the G4, you will probably not be able to use this case AT ALL. A normal G4 fits so snug its tough to snap the inner layer together!

Now that you have been warned, I must continue to compliment the work that OtterBox has done to produce a screen protector that not only provides a great untarnished view of the screen and great tactile feedback, but also an extremely durable material that withstands the bad and the ugly! My G3 was a great test bed for this protector before, and the damage report to the actual protector after a little over 12 months of use on the road was only a few VERY SMALL specs and tiny lines towards the top of the screen where my keys must have rubbed hard. The lines are so small you really have to pay attention in order to see them in the right light.
Damage to the actual phone after falls, keys and sharp objects coming in contact, moisture and rain, etc, was never found. This case took a beating for the phone as it was designed to do. The ONLY signs of wear and tear showed at the USB plug flap which started losing rigidity and appeared to start to peel slightly after maybe 8 months of use.

On my G4 the external rubber layer appears to be much more rigid, and slightly less sticky/rubbery. I am not sure if this is going to help the flaps from wearing in the future, but I certainly hope it doesn't make the previous issue worse. The feel and design of the rubber layer still remains great in the hands, insuring a nice grip over the phone in just about any situation. I like external rubberized cases because they can be propped up against other items or simply laid on a surface and I know the device will stay in place much better than say, a phone with a hard plastic external case. I can sit the Otterbox on my car's dashboard and the phone is not as likely to slide around. If I prop it sideways against another object to facilitate watching a movie, for example, the phone is more likely to remain in place too.

I will not be using the belt-clip holster, but should I decide to use it, the device appears strong and up to the task of keeping the G4 in place even through running and other unlikely exercises. This holster is THICK and big (unavoidable with such a huge phone)... But what I loved about it was the attention to detail and close design tolerances around the clips which engage the phone at the sides. The corner tabs on the holster provide support and keep the phone from sliding around in the holster, but the real heroes are the lateral clips which engage the phone in ANY ORIENTATION! Design nerds will appreciate this feature. The phone can be placed in the holster with the screen facing either way, and the clips should engage and lock it in place snugly.

The only thing which could have made the holster an additional asset for people like myself who will not use the holsters at the hip, would have been to design the case with a replaceable clip and a separate piece that would snap in its place and allow the holster to be mounted on say, a bicycle handlebar. Even a simple "kick stand" feature would have been cool, so that I can set the phone down in the holster and sit on my desk to watch videos, or as a bed-side night clock, etc. With additional ingenuity which is certainly not lacking at the Otterbox headquarters, the Defender holster could become even more useful... The case itself is already top notch and remains my favorite, specially now that it fits so nice and tight against the phone's screen! The next step for the case would be to feature some kind of waterproof capability, but that would probably be a completely different case series that would be more expensive.

PRICE: Dropping $50+ on a case nowadays, when so many decent (and nicer-looking) options are available, is a bit of a LUXURY, but after fiddling around with other (less bulky) cases which did not meet my protection, materials, or design standards justified the higher price tag for an Otterbox product that I am SURE will fit well and do its job over 2 or more years that I will be keeping this phone. After using 3 of their cases Otterbox to me is proven and that gives me peace of mind in this new investment.
You could also consider the cost of a premium screen protector, along with Otterbox's less bulky Commuter case (priced closer to the rest of average G4 cases): You will end up paying the same or MORE, and the fit/protection will not be as good as the Defender case. You will also need to fiddle around mounting the screen protector which is usually very tedious.

To conclude, The Defender case provides the best of both worlds in terms of hybrid hard/soft case protection that truly takes a beating and protects your $600 LG investment. My G3 looked brand new after a year + of being used in its Defender Otterbox, I hope my G4 will also enjoy that luxury.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case my phone survive a 15 foot drop today ... 29 October 2015

Great case my phone survive a 15 foot drop today had it on the belt clip, and was climbing up through an access hole in a celing when It got caught and popped off my belt, I watched helplessly as my phone fell to the ground, I lowered the lift down and went to pick up my phone to my surprise the screen did not shatter and the phone still worked I originally bought a black one at the store but this phone having the activation buttons on the back and my s5 Work Phone also having a black OtterBox and buttons on the side made it difficult to tell them apart and activate the right buttons on both phones so I ordered this blue one from Amazon I thought the blue would have been a lil bit darker, it's a bit more baby blue or Sky Blue, the only issue I have with this cover, which probably does not apply to everybodyI am a supervisor on a construction site so I use both my phones a lot, the issue is that the baby blue color gets dirty easy which is which is not too bad to clean, i used super green on it and it cleaned right off, you might be able to use regular hand soap but if your profession you don't get your hands that dirty this. Might not be an issue for you I clean it about once a week

4.0 out of 5 stars Has Saved My G4 So Many Times 8 February 2016

*****4 MONTH UPDATE***** After having this OtterBox Defender for just about 4 months, the outer layer (rubber) has cracked where the USB charging port cover is. Not from any rough usage, just from the phone being plugged in. That port has never seemed to be cut properly as the cover has always sat at a weird angle when the phone is plugged in, but I never expected it to rip. Tried going through the OtterBox warranty process and they want $4.99 plus tax to deliver a warranty replacement. It's not much, but if your expensive, "heavy duty" product fails after only 4 months of normal use, you should eat the cost of shipping.*****END OF UPDATE*****

It's OtterBox, what more can I say. I have never had any problems with their products and this one is no different. I have dropped my phone from some pretty good distances and I know that without this case it would have cracked the screen, learned the hard way not long ago when I had a phone that I hadn't bought an OtterBox for yet and as my daughter handed me my phone she let go before it was in my hand and it bounced off the couch and hit the floor not even all that hard but the screen was smashed. With the OtterBox I have dropped my new phone a few times where I cringe because I fear it will be damaged, but sure enough the OtterBox does an amazing job and has kept my phone in perfect condition. I will never own a phone again without getting an OtterBox Defender for it. I do wish the screen protector film didn't have the "rainbow effect" but it really isn't that big of a problem, but I think they should really work on fixing this since they have had long enough to figure out a way to keep it from happening, even if they just include a glass protector instead of a built-in plastic protector.
2.0 out of 5 stars cracked and peeling issues 7 April 2017

pretty disappointed. Had it 6 months and the outside cover is peeling and cracked/splitting the corner. rom reading the other comments it looks like the Company want to charge you for replacement and mailing which is so wrong. They should stand behind their product. This is my second one. The other one split on the corner of the phone where it was dropped. It did protect the phone but its damaged so it no longer any god. Hoping the 3rd time's a charm ??
4.0 out of 5 stars Good case but ought to say not recommended for leather G4 1 May 2017

Otterbox is a wonderful case to have for any phone.. Defender comes with a screen protector and belt clip.. screen protector does tend to get messy and scarred but still works good belt clip very sturdy.. the outside packaging clearly states not for leather G4 but mine fit fine.. misleading description of product.. it never states its may not fit leather G4..guess I'm one of lucky ones..
