The above is a critical part but over all the book ia good read.
How often do you find a book which has a glowing panegyric as a foreword by Sheryl Sandberg and a blurb on the cover by a really cool writer like Malcolm Gladwell ? The author Adam Grant comes with impeccable pedigree. A NYT best-seller and also a consultant to really successful companies like Facebook, J & J and the like. I am also a sucker for books on behavioral science and started reading this book with great expectations.
The basic premise of the book is that one need not be an original thinker bubbling with innovative ideas and born with innate leadership abilities to make an impact on the world. Thru various interesting stories, he debunks these myths and finally concludes that one can copy, build alliances and linking our ideas with others , wait for the right time etc., etc., and still accomplish earth shaking things.
Adam Grant is a great story teller. He has the uncanny ability of presenting his ideas with real life stories, get deep into the story and drive his point….he cannot be faulted for this.
My only problem was possibly the expectations I had before I read the book. While the counter intuitive theories are interesting, the book could not hold my interest….strayed away and read 3-4 other books on the way….there is nothing ORIGINAL in The Originals (sic).
I am kind of confused as the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads are glowing. Don’t mind being the contrarian and posting a tepid review…..the book is like the curate’s egg…good in parts….some chapters are stuff that you would have already read in some other book and some chapters are really interesting….the chapter ‘Rebel with a Cause’ throws some really interesting insights…..it gives a new theory on the order amongst the siblings…deciding how much of a risk taker you would be.
Overall..so so…..I am hoping that the long time, I took to read the book is the cause for my disenchantment….will buy one more book of the same author….he is a NYT bestseller after all…..and hope that I lay my hands on something interesting between the covers.

It is the best book of 2016 to ignite the innovative thinking.
I got bored midway and thus read it to complete the book
