Mumbai Confidential
book 1
good cop, bad cop
My review
One of its own kind of graphic novel I've never seen before.
From story to its art work. every piece of work of this book is very unique.
We usually read any comic book or a graphic novel which's story generally rotate around any specific individual. But this books takes graphic novels to a another level.
if i say about the story then from start to end it felt like watching a Hindi Bollywood gangster movie like shootout at lokhandwala or shootout at wadala type.
This book is completely based of event which Mumbai is facing in it's underbelly.
gangsters, encounter copes, politics, actors every one want to rule over Mumbai. Because every powerful person knows this fact that who ever rule over Mumbai can rule all over India and even world.
Ma.Po.Se (Maharashtra Police Seva) was united to secure Mumbai from vigilantes. And for many reason Ma.Po.Se can't keep up that good work. Then they created another section to stop vigilantes, "Encounter force", member of this kind of force is having their own right of judgement. But with this kind of power and authority many encounter force's members are working worst then any vigilante's gang, they created their own encounter gangs. In current scenario many encounter specialist are taking bribe either not to shoot vigilantes or to ignore gang's activities. This book had shown a side of this Mumbai. In this world there is lot more politics which is beyond our imagination. Their is hardly anyone whom you can trust blindly. I am personally feeling that whether you are a graphic novel reader or not, every one should read this book at list once.

HASH(0x90640048) out of 5 stars Gritty noir 30 March 2014
By Alt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Mumbai Confidential is a gritty story set in a gritty environment. Bouncing around in time, the story tells of cops gone bad. Taking a results-oriented approach to police -- the kind of results that allow the police to be jury and executioner (unless they've been paid off) -- the Mumbai Encounter Squad is making the streets safe for ... well, for members of the Mumbai Encounter Squad. Except for Arjun Kadam, whose life has gone to crap for reasons explained in a series of flashbacks. No longer a cop, Kadam undertakes an intricate and somewhat confusing investigation into the squad that formerly employed him. That isn't necessarily a smart thing to do (as he soon learns), but Kadam is beyond caring.

There's an edgy, jittery feel to the writing and art that helps establish the story's noir atmosphere. It doesn't entirely work (I felt lost at a couple of points despite some careful rereading) and the story follows a predictable arc, but the exotic setting and the story's intensity held my interest.
HASH(0x9102eb88) out of 5 stars Awewsome Crime Noir 24 July 2013

I just read the book. It felt like watching a movie. The illustrations by Vivek are amazing. They transport you to the dirty gritty underworld of mumbai, especially the scenes in monsoon. In the end, its the art of story telling that shines through in Saurav's writing.

Brilliant comic, a gritty crime noir with all the twists, turns, crime and corruption. Quite an easy read, highly recommended.

HASH(0x90640ac8) out of 5 stars Horrible quality of illustrations. 11 November 2014

I am huge fan of "Ab tak Chappan" and the Bombay Noir. This graphic novel is absolutely horrible in terms of its quality. The quality of the graphic novel comes from the "graphic" part as well as the story and plot. I don't know if it was either the publisher or the author, who has managed to ruin the illustrations. The illustrations look as if the author put it together in a hurry, or the publisher has made a blunder by using armatures for the publication. I was terribly disappointed and almost felt cheated after looking at the quality. For example, the dialogues are either missing are not even aligned to be within the thought bubbles! The colour palette is off based on different pages, etc. Given that the author or publisher does not care for the patron as long as they have their money, I say this does not deserve any attention. I have attached a snapshot of one page from the Kindle Cloud Reader for reference.
