This is a nice discussion of the subject, which covers mostly the mainstream. It is useful for that. I would have liked to have seen more of the fringe ideas covered. Let's face it, mainstream ideas about transport on roads, in the 1890's, were basically how to improve the horse, and suspension. I found this book useful, and a good introduction to the subject. I sent it to my brother in law, who is also an automotive engineer, and he liked it also.

This is a good introduction to the field of electric vehicle engineering. It begins with the fundamental physics
of vehicular motion, and proceeds with a relatively good overview of the design considerations for different types
of electric and hybrid vehicles. I am a practicing electrical engineer, and I found the book to be informative
and easy to follow. It contains a moderate amount of technical content but is not overly mathematical to the
point of being inaccessible to most readers. I would recommend this as a good first introductory text to the field.

I tried this book in a course designed for senior students mostly in mechanical engineering although it would have been better for graduate students. Had to skip some of the electric/electronic parts. It would give much help to those engineers who try to learn how to design EV or HEV.
