As far as the product itself goes, it is a magnificent product. You won't regret buying it. Great screen, high precision stylus, long battery life, great portability: what's not to like?

It should be clear, before anything else, that it is not a device for gaming, video editing and other processor intensive tasks.

Don't let the "low" processing power put you off. It's more than fast enough for everyday tasks. If you feel it strange that you are spending 50k for what's primarily a device, you should ask yourself if you read or browse the web extensively. If you do that hundreds of hours a year, this device gives you a near unmatched experience. Add that to the fact that this runs a desktop operating system and you can install every application you use on your PC. You can code on it, you can watch videos in 2K, take notes in class (handwriting recognition on this is the best), prepare spreadsheets on PowerPoint, etc. All these are basically done on a tablet, but in this case, you have a bigger and better screen, lesser portability, and a full keyboard and stylus support.

But there are certain cons with the device and they are significant. You don't get either the keyboard or the stylus with it. Without both those, you just have yourself a hugely expensive tablet. But to get those, you will need to spend an additional 18k, which quite frankly is ridiculous. I didn't like the way Microsoft handled this. They are basically selling you only half the product and then forcing you to pay extra for rest. You certainly wouldn't take kindly if your smartphone didn't come with a charger and the manufacturer asks you to pay extra for it, would you? Accessories are non-essential extras, things you can do without.

I bought this directly from Microsoft in US..the i5 version 2 months after its launch. iam a very intense user like about 20 hrs a day. I make notes a lot, read online a lot ..hence an ultimate productivity machine is what I have been looking for. coupled with its lovely type cover and pen this was the answer to my woes..been almost 2yrs of usage this one and am absolutely married to my SP3. loved this machine to my core and still its my faithful companion....got myself a 50 dollar SP4 pen recently and its good compared to previous version pen. This beats apple ipad pro black and blue as far as productivity goes ....updated this baby to windows 10 pro freely the day windows 10 pro was officially launched.....my battery performance improved and productivity is throught the roof. I connect this to my bravia for watching HD movies through HDMI, connect to my 22 in HD monitor at house and work for working and reading along with Bluetooth mouse and full sized keyboard....this is my tablet, my laptop and my desktop all in one......plays HD games with ease....app ecosystem is not upto mark with apple or android but still who cares when u have a full sized desktop in ur hands!! this wonderful machine has been my faithful companion and still is ...ur imagination is the limit to levels of productivity u can achieve with this machine....I have run right from lab experiments on a connected DSP to hardcore gaming on this....My verdict after 1yr 9months of usage is......IF u can afford it, Go for it .....no second thoughts on this one or surface pro 4 ... as of me .....am still married to my SP3!!

Never buy a Surface. Very bad product from Microsoft. Greatly disappointed with the quality. Touch screen sometimes does not work. It stopped working completely after 4 weeks of purchase. Even Reset did not work. There is also sleep of death issue. Total cost of the product is also higher than its rivals. No after sales service in India. Better to think of Apple product

This is my initial review after 2 days of using it. Another review might come later.

UPDATE: I ended up returning it as its slower than my older laptop and I felt I was downgrading. I'll wait for the Surface pro 4 or 5 now.

This review is for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (Core i3 - 4th Gen/4GB/128GB/Windows 10 Pro/Integrated Graphics), Silver.

This is one of the powerful detachables out there. I would not even call it a detachable as its really a tablet. First I'll compare it with the lowest Pro 4 available on Amazon.in and explain why I selected this.

Pros of Pro 4 (compared to Pro 3)
i5 processor
0.3 inch bigger display
1 mm thinner
higher resolution display

Cons of Pro 4 (compared to Pro 3)
25k dearer
-----

Now looking at Pro 3 by itself, it is somewhat heavier to use it as a tablet. So you would need one of those "strap-holders". The keyboard
(to be purchased for 12.5k extra) is good but costs about twice its actual worth. Get the pen from eBay as Amazon does not have the pen for Pro 4 (which has a higher resolution).

The tablet cannot be tilted less than about 110 degrees. For people who sometimes like to use it lying down in bed, this won't work unless you find a stand or base or clamp that can keep the tilt at 90 degrees or less. Furthermore, even if you do manage to clamp it, the display, being heavier, will tend to topple. So you will need a heavier keyboard or need to clamp it on a base.

For the pen and keyboard, get those designed for Pro 4, as they are better and compatible with Pro 3.

For the programmers, I ran Netbeans and Eclipse for Java and they worked nicely; but not as good as my old Dell i5 with 4 GB RAM.
