About The Book

In a country that fanatically follows cricket like a religion, the name of Sachin Tendulkar evokes the mental image of a demigod. Sachin Tendulkar is probably one of the most successful and famous cricketers to have ever existed in the last couple of decades. For that reason, many have written odes to Sachin which are cherished by his fans all over the world. Master Laster: What They Don't Tell You About Sachin Tendulkar is a book that seeks to dive deep into the surface of the image that Sachin Tendulkar enjoys all over this country.

This book is a treatise that is very unconventional in the way it approaches the master blaster. It takes into account the tiny details that seem to slip everyone's attention and gives startling new perspectives by making use of such nuances. There aren't many books out there that look at Sachin in an overtly critical fashion because his achievements are widely acclaimed by numerous fans. This book seeks to overcome such a social stigma and look at Sachin Tendulkar's career in an objective manner.

Master Laster: What They Don't Tell You About Sachin Tendulkar provides new insights into Sachin's cricketing career and his contributions as a team player. This book is available in paperback and was published by Adams Media in 2013.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Conclusive, More Opinionated 3 December 2013
By Manoj
Author uses some statistics to show, how team performed when Sachin played. First of all, I don't understand what is the co-relation. Cricket being a team game, these statistics are more of a math flashing gimmicks and nothing else. I don't even understand comparing Sachin with other greats like Ponting and Lara, when they had Mc'Grawth, Warne and Walsh, Ambrose in their team respectively. And the irony is, Author, who, i have no doubt is a Sachin hater, (And believe me he couldn't justify that hate in those 220 pages) is using his picture at cover to sell his book.
And last but not the least, there is no mention of 136 at Chennai and 175 at Hyderabad, when he is presenting stats of whether Sachin's centuries made any difference in the team. Such a looser, Sumit Chakraberty. When you say something bad about such legends, at least convince the reader that you are presenting facts and not fiction.
Waste of time and money.

This book is such a pathetic attempt to belittle Sachin that it fails horribly. The writer thinks he is making sense but the fact is he has just written some nonsense. The name Sachin tendulkar speaks more than just records. He is called the greatest batsmen in the world not because of the number of centuries he has, but for the way he has dealt with some of the deadliest bowlers in the past and how he has handled the pressure of a billion people believing in him every time he walked out to bat, and the attitude with which he has carried his game forward. There are many more reasons as to why he is called as the God of Cricket, this space wouldn't be sufficient for that.
The Author is just trying to make some money by criticizing the best in business.

1.0 out of 5 stars To what extent can people go to sell their books! 14 March 2014
The author clearly has good knowledge of the game, its history, statistics and so on. But it seems that knowledge was used with the one dimensional objective of trying to poke holes in one of the most illustrious sports careers. He fails to, or perhaps refuses to acknowledge the innumerable pluses while focusing on the few minuses. In fact many of the negatives that he comes up with are more about twisting the numbers and forcing oneself to look at the argument only in a certain way!

Almost all the negatives can be argued with an alternate viewpoint as well. Points which the author of his knowledge (if at all the credentials are correct) would also have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Master Laster is a great read! 29 November 2013

A truly great read. What a relief it is to find one writer who has the intellect and guts to use objectivity, not blind hero worship, to analyse Sachin Tendulkar. Some of the interesting aspects the author has delved into are: How Sachin Tendulkar's various records impacted on the team; Does Sachin really deserve the "God of Cricket", "Greatest Batsman" etc accolades heaped on him?; What is the truth behind the phenomenal numbers he has accumulated - his centuries, for example; And many more such interesting aspects.

Aside from the objective analysis, using the same numbers that Sachin's influential promoters use to hype him, the style of writing is wonderfully engaging and helps one to appreciate the game of cricket and realise who the real heroes of this game are and have been. Another great selling point of this book is that it presents an independent view point, based on facts that can be checked, unlike the gushy hype created by BCCI approved cricket commnetators.

Whether you are a hard core cricket aficionado or are one of those who just has a passing interest in the game, since it looms so large on our sports scene, this book is a "must read".

Good to read a logical and data supported exposition on the most talked about cricketer in the world. The author has examined every game played by the Little Master and has expressed his conclusions in a forthright manner. What I surprised me was that the author has strictly stuck to facts alone to take a contrarian stand instead of attempting any smart-alecky tactics or mud-slinging. The book is a good resource for all cricket lovers as well as other sports writers working on a cricket book. An engaging book for any inquiring mind.
