5.0 out of 5 stars Slim, unobtrusive protection 18 July 2012
By Adam - Published on Amazon.com

My product was shipped with a note stating that it is the "new and improved" model. To that I can say it must be true, because my experience with this product has been good.

When shopping for a case, I wanted something that was thin- I didn't want the feel of the phone to be much thicker than the already streamlined feel of the galaxy S3. This case accomplishes this with flying colors. It does add 1.0mm of thickness to the total phone, but as someone familiar with injection molding, this is a minimum thickness required for a part this large to actually fill properly without warp.

The case "hugs" the front left and right front side of the phone, so it does protrude from the front of the glass by 0.25-0.30 mm. This is only on the left and right sides of the screen... it's not by much, but if you are expecting this scree to perfectly be flush to the screen, it will not be. And neither will any other case since it has to "trap" the phone in order to retain the device.

I also wanted a case that didn't change the color of the phone. I like the "stone blue" color of the phone, and didn't want to buy a case that made the aesthetics boring. This case being clear (and by clear, I mean clear like glass- it has no hue to the translucency) accomplished that requirement.

I also wanted something that didn't have texture on it. I have found through past experience that tacky, or textured cases caused the phone to catch on my pants pockets as I removed the phone from them, causing me to clumsily drop the phone on the ground. My HTC Incredible suffered a screen fracture to do a tacky pliable case that liked to stick to my jeans... d'oh!

Do take note that this case does not protect the front top and bottom edges of this phone (galaxy s3). So if you drop it just right, your screen still is at risk of cracking if it were to land on the front facing edges of the top and bottom of the phone.

Regardless of this trait, I am pleased with the case because it accomplishes what I desired: a unobtrusive protection that doesn't take that much away from the appearance of the phone. Granted, I may switch to something more rugged if my lifestyle warrants it (especially if I find myself dropping my phone a lot), but this is a low cost case that doesn't make my phone look like crap.
1.0 out of 5 stars Not was I was looking for in a cover 12 August 2012

The cover arrived on time and was accurate in its description. However- although the slim case fits snugly, the top of the phone is exposed.
The screen protector was a thin piece of hard rectangular plastic with a piece of sticky type tape attached. When I tried to stick this cover on to the glass of the phone- it fit on awkwardly for a few moments, than kept on falling off. The screen cover came with no directions on how to stick it on to the phone securely.
I was looking for protection for my new phone- and this cover will not suffice if the phone is dropped. I would not recommend this cover for protection- because it does not cover the phone entirely and the screen protector fails to stay on the phone. I would not have purchased this product if I had seen it or examined it first.

5.0 out of 5 stars New version of the case is much better. Very slim fit. Plastic is much clearer. 4 July 2012

The case will definitely protect your sparkling new phones. It fits nicely to the phone and it's not too hard to put the phone in, but the phone doesn't fall out easily also. You can access the usb port and the headphone jack easily.
My only complain is that the case make it very difficult to press the power button and the volume button because the cut out space is so close to the button.

Also, the clear case makes the phone less stylish. I wish they make a dark blue case that matches the pebble blue color of my Samsung Galaxy S3.

EDIT: 7/3/2012: Not long after my first review, my phone starts falling off the case. It's very loose now. I don't know what happened. I have a TMobile version of the S3 if that matters...

EDIT: 7/13/2012: I've contacted Kay's Case on 7/4 and they promised to send me the new version of the case for free. There were some delay because they need to improve the new version so they did not send out the new case until 7/10. I just received the case today (7/13), and I have to say this version is a lot better than the old version.

The case feels "slimmer" compared to the last version. It improves the look of the case when you look straight to the phone from the front. I think it's due to the smoother transition to the cut out on the top and bottom of the case (if you understand what I mean). The old version has a sharp transition to the top and bottom cut out. I will try to upload a picture to explain when I have time. My only concern is the top and bottom is somewhat more exposed compare to the old version due to the new smooth transition, but the corners are still very well protected. I think if they can improve the case again by covering the top and bottom a little bit more, it will be perfect.

The plastic is also much cleaner than the old version (I bought the "clear" version), so no more "muddy" look. Overall, the look of the case is greatly improved.

The most important improvement is that my phone does not fall off the case anymore. You really have to give an effort to try to get the phone off the case now. Also, the cut out of the side buttons are much better now, so I have no problems accessing the volume and power buttons.

Overall, this case is perfect if you want to get invisible shield type soft screen protector. From what I've researched, those soft liquid solution type screen protector have problems with Diztronic TPU Case, because TPU Case wraps around to the front of the screen and can ruin the invisible shield, which goes all the way to the edge of the screen. With Kay's hard shell case, you would not have any problem with invisible shield, since it barely wraps the front of the screen, but still give some front drop protection. With invisible shield, you will not need to worry at all a front drop.

Also, I give Kay's Case 5 star for service since they send me the new version of the case without charge, and I can still keep the old case for backup.

5.0 out of 5 stars The new case is indeed better 30 June 2012

The case fits my international S3 well. It pops in effortlessly and there was no wiggle room after. The thickness of the plastic turns out to be approximately 1/16 of an inch. Based on the picture, I was under the impression it would be a bit thinner. The screen protector was easy to apply. It had no negative effect on the sensitivity of the touch screen once it's on which is good. Overall I'd give it a 4-star but it took 9 days to receive shipment which I find it unbelievable (-1 star).

** Updated July 5, 2012 **
Upon seeing my review, the seller sent me an email and offered to send me a new improved replacement case at no charge. This time I received the package within 2 business days via USPS instead of Amazon's fulfillment service (Amazon's free shipping is a joke, they just sit on the order and wait until a week later - avoid). It turns out the package contained 2 cases - 1 clear and 1 white. I must say the new clear case is indeed much better. I'd say it's approximately 20% thinner and lighter in weight. The fit was more snug than the old one. The new case has more "plastic coverage" at the top and bottom. The old case had thick corners which made the overall size of the phone looked slightly bigger. When comparing the overall thickness of the old case against new case sitting flat on a table side-by-side, it was obvious that the new case is lower in profile. The white case is almost exactly identical to the new clear case except for the back camera & speaker hole cut outs - the white one is just 1 integrated cut out instead of 3 separate punch holes. The white case has a bit of softer hard rubber feel to it without being grippy. Personally I like the feel of the clear case better but the white case does look good with a white phone. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Kudos to the seller for the excellent customer satisfaction commitment. I highly recommend the new snug fit model - 5 stars!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Be Aware This is a Minimalist Case. Be Careful with Your Phones. 16 July 2012
By Jeng Jia Hung - Published on Amazon.com

This case grips on the left and right of the phone leaving the metal top and bottom completely exposed. Of course, that exposed top edge is where the deep scratch occurred when my phone dropped against the edge of a table. If KaysCase covered just a tiny bit more, having the plastic barely covering the metal part at the top and bottom, it wouldn't have been scratched as badly.

This case also doesn't protect the front of the phone at all since the plastic grips on the left and right side flat. The case doesn't even raise a couple millimeters to protect against a drop on the front of the phone. If your phone lands on the front, the glass front of your phone will touch square on the ground.

But everything I've said is to be expected from a minimalist case. People buy these cases to protect the back from getting scratched up from daily usage, not for drop protection. But, even with a minimalist case, I wish it had some minimal protection at the top and bottom, and its front just a tiny bit raised so that drops from the front wouldn't leave the front scratched up with full contact with the ground.

I do recommend this case, however, because it does what it is meant to do. After a little while, it's amazing to see how much I've scratched up the back already. The front is protected by their screen protector, so that's been well protected too. Just do not drop this case often, because while the back and sides will be covered, every other part won't.
